ASDA Subs and Delivery Upstairs

I normally stick to getting deliveries of groceries from Tesco with occasional ventures to Sainsbury or Iceland but couple of weeks ago I ordered from Asda and was suprised to see there were ELEVEN subs ...Tesco rarely have subs but occasionally there are 1 or possibly two...that's understandable ...Apart from that it was what the subs were that really annoyed me..Sea Bass subbed by Salmon ( well they are both fish I suppose )and the useby date was the very next day and 2 Scotch Pies subbed with Pork Pies ( well they are both pies) There were also issues with a couple of the others but I took them anyway as I couldn't be faffed arguing about it . I did get a refund for them and for the fact there was only one or two bags ...the rest were loose . You wonder what goes through the mind of the pickers ..
Yesterday I was due another delivery( which I knew had 5 subs) but got a phone call in the morning to say two drivers had called in sick ( which can't be helped) and I was asked if today between 2-3pm would be suitable for the delivery . That was fine .
About 1:20 the phone rang and it was the driver ..Nothing said about being early but he asked if I could come down ( I stay on 2nd floor) to help with the order . I said that this had never been a problem before and he mentioned about " terms and condition". As I wasn't ready to go outside and with what had happened with the previous order subs and being a bit grumpy I just said to take the stuff back to the store which he readily agreed to .
I phoned Asda later and the guy I spoke to said this " upstairs" issue had been introduced a couple of months ago but he didnt explain why..I certainly got no notice of it . He couldnt explain the subs issue other than saying if the stuff isn't on the shelves it cant be picked which is true in a literal sense but how can Tesco organise things to avoid this ..perhaps a problem with stock control.
Any way rant over .I'll just stick to Tesco.

I stopped using Tesco as their subs were ridiculous ! Chicken breasts subbed for beef burgers, Semi skimmed milk subbed for cream, asparagus subbed for brocolli .... the list goes on.
Asda is easy, you log in before your delivery and you can see your subs so you know before hand if they are acceptable or not and if anything is short dated just log on and hit refund button and it will be refunded back onto your card.
The upstairs policy I was told was because of health and safety for the drivers and that most stores will follow suit (not sure I believe that)I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Thanks Sarah . It's just annoying when you order particular items because you want/need them ..somethings just can't be suitably subbed . I did see the other day that you could get refunds at a click of a mouse so that is a good idea .
The fact that you have a problem with Tesco and I don't and I have trouble with Asda suggests it is down to poor local management . Thanks again0 -

Sounds like they either have an issue with stock control or the store has the stock and someone hasn't done they're job properly.
If they aren't the issue then maybe its because the shoppers only get a small amount of time to choose a sub, if it cant be found then they sub it.0 -
I'm relatively new to this online shopping lark, been having weekly deliveries from Tesco for about three months now. Most stuff we actually note as "No Sub". We've only had one item not delivered (cheese bloomer) and one substitution (dearer chopped tomatoes for value).
I wonder if the pick time has anything to do with the number of subs? We always have morning deliveries so it would be picked early morning just after the store has re-stocked overnight ...:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Seems pointless to give you a choice if they are just going to send out what they want to anyway.0

From experience albeit not from a Tesco pov the time of day and the day the order was picked could lead to zero subs for customers or a couple of subs.
Some lines were popular on a certain day and the business didnt send enough stock in to cover the amount to be picked plus leave enough for in store customers.0 -
We started using ocado a few years ago and would never go back to any of the other supermarket deliverys. Have never had a substitution because all their orders are picked from 'dark' stores so the minute you order the system knows whether the item will be in stock or not. Would definately recommend it to anyone.0

Must just be your local store. When an item isn't in stock, their pickers scanners will automatically bring up a prepicked substitute. Obviously these are not always suitable, so (at sainsburys at least) there is an option to click no and rescan something more suitable, ie no meatballs, so sub mince.
I'm going to assume it's lazy pickers at your local asda!
Do you do your shopping on a set day? Try and order for another day when there are different staff in and see if it's an improvement.
I'd also assume the delivery driver was new as they probably teach them not to go up stairs now where as older staff will be used to it and will probably continue. I think most supermarkets have that now though.0 -
I am a driver for Mr T's & we are told that "up to" 2 flights of stairs, we should deliver. Any more than that is at the driver's discretion.Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T0
