Laptop won't connect with internet

And here's me thinking it was a fault on my laptop and trying all sorts of tweaks to get it working. I run Win 8.1 on a Lenovo Yoga notebook. I previously had a problem with wifi network connectivity which I traced to win 8.1 using some sort of fancy dynamic connectivity algorithm for WiFi which meant that, faced with more than one valid WiFi network option available, (I have repeaters in the further parts of my house), it kept cycling through them all unable to decide which route to use. So connectivity went in and out continuously.
Now here is another issue. BTW Restart does not make any difference. Curses Microsoft. PS checked my WiFi card drivers first, all up to date. Still have the problem0 -
The only thing that fixed mine was to follow advice given here (don't know whether you've done this)

namely, scrolling right down the above page until you get to this bit (I'm copying and pasting):

Reset the TCP/IP stack
Release the IP address
Renew the IP address
Flush and reset the DNS client resolver cache
To run these networking commands in a command prompt window
In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter

I only needed to do the first of these from the command prompt ("netsh winsock reset" ENTER) as after the required restart, the system then managed to recognise the wifi again, thank goodness. If it doesn't work for you, you might need to try the others on the above list.0
