Assuming you were not at fault your insurance claim will be paid by the Motor Insurance Bureau just like any other accident involving an uninsured driver.
ahh , the one that UK car users HAVE to pay into , whilst people with foreign cars with dubious rights to be in the country , wherefore dubious insurance , drive around throwing 2 fingers in the air :mad:Save a Rachael

Your French Insurance Company will be asking for the relevant ferry or tunnel tickets if you need to claim, they might cover third party damage if you are lucky. Do what I did get a car from the country you are in, it saves a lot of grief in the long run.0

WHAT! any havre to comply with the laws of the land ,
in the words of the OP
"Everyone tries to take advantage of the system (see this website and many others). Why should I be different. Statistics show that only few people pay fines served in a foreign country. I am not worse than everyone."Save a Rachael

Don't be so harsh. The OP is paying for the privilege every time they buy something & pay VAT. They will be paying income tax on their salary. Road Tax isn't hypothecated & in any case could be as little as £20 or even £0 depending on which car the OP is driving.
Maybe the OP shouldn't poke a hornets nest, oh and maybe Amazon are OK not paying their due taxes just because they employ lots of staff on just above minimum wage.0 -

Finally, I am pretty amused of all this at first quite simple question can unleash some erroneous patriotism.
Thank you fisherjm and pappa golf for your replies, I had a good laugh. Thank you for allowing me "the privilege of using your roads" ! Next time you go abroad, just think about you just said. In many countries including France, you don't pay anything for using the local roads, you don't pay anything when you are rescued at 3000 m in the Alps because you forgot to take a map with you... So many examples where foreign tourists are given "the privilege" of using emergency services for free.
And on what ground, shouldn't it be the case here ? As many other guessed, I pay lots of taxes in this country including an extortionate £1600 council tax and among others £124 a month for having the privilege of using an everyday packed tube...
I am not here to earn some sympathy from whoever, but just to have an answer to a question. I can provide help as well to whoever may think I can provide to him/her.
Finally, fisherjm and pappa golf, please carry on your smooth talk, keep thinking I am a crazy dangerous driver who is not insured, and throwing two fingers to anyone who disagrees with me. This just gives me an idea about what you are... and it makes me laugh...0 -
one could say that as person who is paying £1600 in council tax, is a full time resident in this country , NOT a visitor
when living and working in the UK you should pay ALL your dues , not pick and choose which to "cheat on"Save a Rachael

I never said I was a visitor. Please read carefully.
You are absolutely right, we all have to pay our dues. I guess you never challenge anything you pay. They must be right if they say so.
If you are fined £130 for a wheel on the end of a double yellow, don't challenge it, the officer must be right because you are certainly parked in a dangerous place. Trust the system. The system must like you.
I usually pay all my fines (how many don't). Sometimes I find them rather severe and I challenge them, this is the purpose of it I guess. I just try to find the best way to do it.0
