Currys PC World Know How

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is in the right place, it's my first time posting on MSE. I bought a TV from Currys back in January and as usual the salesman was trying to sell me the Know How insurance. I refused this 5 or 6 times and in the end he gave me a slip with 3 months free Know How insurance. I thought nothing of it until last week I noticed that £8.49 had been taken from my credit card (the card I bought the TV on) since April (I'm guessing this is when the 3 months ran out) by Currys PC World. I don't remember signing a direct debit agreement with them. I called the Knowhow customer this afternoon, waited 45 minutes on hold to be told that I need to speak to the cancellation team for which there is a 75 minute. I asked how else I could cancel and I was told there was no other way. Unfortunately this was paid for on my credit card so I can't just cancel the direct debit, does anybody know of another way to cancel? I know it's my own fault for not reading the Ts & Cs but it's extremely frustrating.

It's not a Direct Debit, it's a Continuous Payment Authority, and you card issuer is required to cancel it if you tell them to. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean you aren't still required to pay, that will be down to what you agreed, and could mean whoever issues the insurance taking action against you if you fail to pay.

Curry's all over. We bought a tv from them some time ago which came with a 3 months 'free' Lovefilm(?) subscription. I'm of the opinion that there's no such thing as a free lunch, so I refused the offer. The salesman promptly went into overdrive - 'it's totally free, you'd be daft not to take it, yadda yadda. He pushed a card towards me which I picked up and read just to shut him up. Then I scribbled through the bank/card details because - hey - it's free so why do they need my bank details? The salesman gave me another card and insisted that I HAD to fill in my bank details in order to take up the 'free' offer. I ripped up the card. He got the message.
