Cars dead - Will the AA fit new battery for me?

Our car failed to start yesterday, and I know the battery needs replacing, think the cold night finished it off. I've ordered a new one but at 26Kg in weight I don't fancy fitting it yet having recently had surgery. If I call the AA for homestart, would they fit it for me, as their fix?

Cheeky I know, just seeing what you guys think?

It's definitely to the heavy end, but it's not unfeasibly so - a quick look-up of a battery for something big like a diesel Shogun suggests 21kg.

Something more normal is a good chunk lighter - something like a very average 069 comes in at about 16kg.

can you not get someone to help you? I doubt its 25Kg unless you driving a hummer.

:D Think mine weighs about 14kg and its not even the lightweight version some others use.

This. Fitting a battery is not (usually) difficult, as long as someone is able to bear the weight for a short period. (Remember, the old battery has to come out first).

Make sure you have a note of any radio codes or other info you may need once the new battery is fitted.

Have you checked that it's not the alternator that's goosed? Fitting a new battery will only be a temporary fix if the alternator's not charging it.

We're relatively new to the area so dont know anyone, not even neighbours (they're old anyway)

The Varta battery for my car is just shy of 25Kg (it was a typo earlier when I said 26Kg) and no, not a hummer.

Can you not get the delivery company to put it in the boot for you?
