Damage by Sky installer

Unfortunately it's the ridiculous blame culture of the day.
If the bizarre contemporary scent machine (what's wrong with candles?) was within the immediate vicinity, I think you'd just have to chalk it down to poor placement and timing.0 -

I have no strong opinion either way on this one but I am constantly reading thread right now about how everyone is to blame except the OP.
Whether it's molten wax with no regard to whether the guy suffered any pain, to a plumber not detailing that they make a mess when moving radiators, a tenant wanting to break contract because they suffer an hour of noise from workmen of a morning while works are ongoing or a homebuyer who didn't look at an EPC report for six weeks after making an offer, realises that a graphic was wrong on a property listing and suddenly decides that the EPC is really important.
Does nobody apply common sense or just accept that poo happens sometimes?!
Sorry...my post was more tongue in cheek. I used to fit lifts for a living and we had to perform 'dynamic' risk assessment whenever or company couldn't be bothered to travel to site to do a site specific risk assessment, or when a building site changed due to buildings being changed or built!
I would say that both people are at fault though only with more specifics could I decide who was more to blame. If it was an obvious danger then the sky installer, if not then the home owner. Either way both should have been questioning its placement!
Common sense is strangely devoid from many peoples lives. As we get more smart devices we get lass smart as a species!0 -
This is the wax burner I was on about.

It was well out of the way of the Sky engineer however it was plugged into an extension which the engineer tried pulling out (to unplug the Sky box) and it pulled the wax burner off a shelf. I assume I should have unplugged it, along with the tv and everything else plugged into the extension.0 -

If the flame is hidden or there is no flame then he may not have realised what is was and assessed the risk as high as it was. The OP, on the other hand knows exactly what it is and what danger it may present.
So, on balance I think the OP is the one who knows exactly what risk items in their own home might pose to the guy working there, not just their own belongings.
Exactly , I had this the other day in my own home , leant over it not realising the mrs had it lit , I dipped my shirt in it and then stood up straight whilst installing a lead in the tv , I managed to wax my stomach and lose a layer of skin at the same time , they are LETHAL.0 -
Sky have been excellent and are sending someone out to assess the damage.0
