Is there a way to avoid early termination of contract fees for ISPs?

Options
I want to change to a new broadband + phone provider but they all have 12 to 18 month contracts and I may need to move in that time (and won't be able to take the account with me).

I spoke to Talk Talk and they said if I end a contract early I would have to pay either termination fees or until the end of the contract which could be several hundreds of pounds. I am not sure I want to commit to a year or more contract but my current contract has just ended and my monthly internet bill has reverted to non-contract and has shot up by £10 so unless I take a new contract I will be paying a lot more than I want to but if I do take a contract I might be tied into paying a lot if I have to move (I may need to move in with an elderly relative who already has a contract and wants to keep their phone number so would not be able to take my account across to theirs).

Is there any way to avoid paying early termination fees if you end a service provider contract early? The only "no contract" service providers have terrible reviews, so I don't dare go with them.

If you accept a contract then you agree to abide by its T&Cs and will have an early exit penalty, unless they offer to let you go because of price increases which are above the level agreed.
  • So if you think you might need to move, do not commit yourself to a long contract. You have stated it will cost you £10/month more to let your existing contract roll over to normal 30 day notice, but balance that against the amount of early termination charges you might have to pay to buy out an 18 month contract.

It sound like you want the discount you get because you commit for 18 months, without actually committing for 18 months. Not going to happen.

Now TV Combo. Fibre broadband 38 Mbps + calls + TV with no contract from £29.99 per month + £60 set up. This is an introductory offer but you can leave any time you want if the price increases or you don't like it.

So does Talktalk ... and Plusnet ... and Vodaphone ... and BT ... and ... and ... :D

Alternatively ask a neighbour if you can share their connection for free - easy to do with a wireless extender but you'll have to pay for that.

Just had a quick scan and a lot of those reviews are kinda nonsense, and relate to the TV element of the service... lots of people complaining that after their three month Movies or Entertainment voucher had run its course they were then subscribed and charged for another month, which is indeed what happens and is explained quite clearly when you go through the process of inputting the voucher code.

The NOW TV broadband service is basically the Sky Broadband service with another name, and Sky Broadband is generally fine.
