I have spoken to the insurance company this morning and they are saying they have found a couple on Auto Trader the same spec for £950 which is somewhat less than £1200 I found them for.
Just because somebody has advertised one for a higher price doesn't mean they're worth that higher price. Unrealistic dreamers place ads too...He admitted they are all up country there is nothing in our area.
Whether there are some available in your area or not does not affect the value.I asked that if we had to go up north to get a vehicle would they pay for travel and getting the vehicle home to which they said no.
Of course he did. You didn't pay for insurance to cover all costs of you searching for the exact vehicle you want. You paid for insurance to pay you the pre-collision value of your vehicle.
Are you claiming from your policy, or directly from his? This vehicle had a new exhaust in September at £205 has a full service record runs like a dream and no recommendations on the last MOT.
Just what a properly maintained vehicle should be...Bearing in mind it would go on for at least another 50,000 miles equating to 11 years of driving for us this would, in most probability, out last my husband and I being in our 70's.
Again, that does not affect the value of the vehicle. No matter what, we are going to lose out
No, you're not. You'll receive the fair market value of your vehicle.for something which was not our fault
And your future premiums will reflect that.to a driver that never once asked how we were and said it wasn't worth claiming for!!!!!
<shrug> His manners are not covered by the claim. We are now taking it to our garage re the door and going to ask them to do an estimate for the value of the car.
Good. But it will need to be realistic. And you might not like that...0 -
Get a quote to allow you to open and close the tailgate - get a cash in lieu of repair payment or buy it back for salavage and get it repaired and keep driving it.
This happened to me twice and I ended up getting the car for nothing and making £1500 in 2 years, if you dont mind driving an un-perfect looking car.0 -
Agree with the last poster. Cars are written off quite easily especially when taking into account courtesy car charges. With an older high ish mileage like yours its a dead cert to write off. Have bought back 2 cars and ended up in pocket after the repairs. Once never claimed as was cheaper to buy a bumper at the breakers.
A note of caution for others I had a one owner fsh 20k on clock 15year old vw written off for minor damage. Unbelievably the lady at the insurance company told me to fight to retain the car as someone at the insurance companies garage fancied my car for themselves! Its still mine0 -
I had very similar happen to me about 20 years ago- bought a VW estate at dealer's trade-in price of £200. 6 months later someone hit the tailgate and stove it in jammed shut. The very friendly loss adjuster fella looked at it and said "how about we pay you the write-off value of £250 and you can keep the car?" I took the money and fitted a new tailgate obtained from a breaker's yard for £40.0

Any back or neck pains after this reckless piece of driving by the other person..?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thank you so much for all your replies. I have told the insurance company that we want to keep the car and have sent pictures to prove it is not dangerous to drive. I really didn't know this could be done. We don't like owing for or buying cars just to look good.
Great information everyone.
MSE is a great site it has helped us more than once.0 -
When I had a rear end accident the insurance refused to pay up. They just told me to stick my underpants in the washing machine.0
