I've joined our local council bulk purchase scheme for a battery system. I now have the offer and have a while to decide if I want to go ahead, so I thought that I'd expose it to you guys for a verdict:
The winner of the auction was a company called "Solarair" and they are "recommending" a 4kWh battery system for £5430.
    Other options are:
    8kWh £7943
    12kWh £9283
    14kWh £11711
I have 4kWp PV generating 3834kWh pa, an EV, 2kW Hot tub, Octopus Go (4 hours cheap rate, 3237kWh pa peak, 3043 pa o/p, 1293 pa exported).
Specs: Sofar Hybrid Inverter (no model given) and Pylon US2000Plus batteries.
Fully installed, all with 10 year warranty. Feelings?
Agree with above, it's a rip off.

Equipment wise, here's a us5000c (4.8kwh) hybrid kit which has all the material for £3k without even looking in detail for deals.

    https://www.itstechnologies.shop/collections/pylontech-us2000-us3000-phantom/products/pylontech-us5000-4-8kwh-complete-3kw-hybrid-kit-charges-from-solar-octopus-go-1

Add a grand to install and that's still better than the bulk deal.
    5.41 kWp System, E-W. Installed Nov 2017
    Lux + 3 x US2000B + 2 x US3000C battery storage. Installed Mar 2020.

The price of the US5000C is around £1900 & an inverter will cost around £1000. Installation should be no more than £500 if the battery bank is installed near to the CU.

    Total cost of a 4.8kWh system - £3400.

(These are not even the cheapest prices)

    £5430 is a rip off.

Three years ago (so rather out of date) my 6.3kWh battery and inverter cost me £3.5k.  So agree with above comments.

At this time of year this capacity works nicely for me.  In another month or two it will run down when I cook the evening meal.  In winter I'll be importing a few kWhs each day at peak rate.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
    Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE
    Solax 6.3kWh battery

Definitely a rip off, and why change your solar inverter at all? Imo better to have a stand alone battery system, that's what I have, lux acs.

Hybrid inverter makes the fit less as your generation meter will record after the inverter, and so if you divert to batteries, less generation goes through the meter.
It can be an issue for buying off peak to store also, that's why I went for stand alone

Wow. That is expensive. Our system of 16.4 kWh of Givenergy batteries only cost slightly more than that last year when we had them installed.
Have prices really gone up that much! Looks like a rip-off.

  • Hi everyone, I have solar panels and am looking at having a battery installed too.  Been quoted £6600 for a 6.5kWh battery (includes installation and VAT) but think it’s very steep given the messages on here about buying batteries then getting them installed.  Question is, who does the installation?  I’ve googled it and can only find the same companies who want to charge me £6600 for supplying and installing!!  Can any competent electrician do this, and if so how should I find one please??
    thanks in advance

Yes, I wasn't impressed. When I get back from holiday I'm going to explore fitting my own. Can anyone make recommendations on a mains-connected inverter, and a battery supplier, please?
