Well, it depends on what the contract says, of course. In reality, I've never heard of anyone coming off deemed export due to having a Smart Meter fitted.
We had a smart meter fitted last year when we switched to Octopus and we're still on deemed export. FIT paid by EON.
Go on then, @Exiled_Tyke @orrery @EVandPV all three of you. What exactly do your contracts say regarding deemed export and export meters? We're all itching to know.
I posted mine above, in case you want to compare.
Well yours suggests that they could change it as you've agreed 'to allow' them to use deemed export.   I can't find any such wording with mine but the application form asked me to choose from options, so having opted for 'Generation and deemed export payments' I would argue that this is contractual so they don't have the right to unilaterally change it.

But what does the contract actually say? For example:

BG (see clauses 4.5 and 4.6):

I have battery storage, Immersion heater diverter as well as my PV....No idea what my contract says but if I went from deemed export to actual I would be about £30 a year worse off,  I have still managed to export 25% of my generation over the past 18 months despite trying to use it all.
    3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch (£3.36 /W).

Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since.

13 Feb 2020 LUX AC 3600 and 3 X Pylon Tech 3.5 kW batteries added...

20 January 2024 Daikin ASHP installed

Forgot:  unless your meter is reversing while exporting.   Illegal but don't get a smart meter if you're OK with that.
Surely when you start submitting negative meter reads they will smell a rat?

"Edit, yeah if you add panels on same inverter you need to tell fit... however be aware they will either reduce your fit by a percentage or cancel it altogether... thats what edf told me when I asked.

Hence I went with a stand alone system instead.

If it doesn't go through you fit meter, the fit provider doesn't care.
The dno might, but thats a different matter really"

Yep to this too.  You'll probably need to get agreement from the DNO which will cost.

I installed my extra panels with micro inverters as the cheapest way to add some extra capacity.

(Apologies to Solarchaser. For some unknown reason I was unable to use the 'quote' function).

Yeah quote function doesn't work for me either sometimes.

Regarding the dno, I contacted mine and was told that all of south Scotland was red for generation, so I'd be refused.

If I get charged for too much solar, I'll post in here to let you know not too.

However since there are rapid and fast chargers at the end of my street now, I'm sure they will be happy to take my excess solar

I dont think they run back that much, or at least, I've never heard of it, usually uts a ratchet system so will only run back so far.... weird to watch though.

My edf contract from memory says they may chose to move to export figures later, but then edf fitted my first smart meter and still stayed with deemed export

Sorry, another question from me, what if I had a fault with one of my solar panels and had to replace it, but I can't get like for like?  If I swapped out a 250w panel for a 335w panel would I need to inform the FIT provider?  Technically?

Technically,  you probably should, in reality it would probably not make much of a difference to output, unless you changed the full string

I'm not suggesting or even condoning that you try this,  but you'd only get a negative daily reading if you export more than you've used.  If reading at (say) 6pm was actually lower than it had been at 8am you'd be able to calculate how long you needed to switch on your oven or how many loads of washing you'd need to process.

I had my meter replaced a couple of months after my solar panels were installed. It had been a month after my last meter reading when the solar panels were installed and the backward spinning meter would have given a negative reading (relative to the previous one) by the time it was replaced if I hadn’t switched the panels off for a couple of days.

As it was I paid for virtually no electricity for 3 months.
