Asda credit card application

edited 5 December 2016 at 3:42PM in Credit cards
I have recently applied for an Asda Credit card, seeing as I shop regularly at Asda both in person and online and use their petrol station on a regular basis.

I was going to earn the 1% or so bonus for shopping with them using their card.

During the process I was asked to provide physical proof of my address and post it to them.

This I refused to do. I have lived at this address for many years as can be verified by the credit reference agencies.

As expected my application was binned.

I sent an email to the Asda CEO, Sean Clarke, asking for an explanation as to why I had to furnish physical proof of my home address.

This email was acknowledged and last Friday Asda Money tried to contact me.

Below is a copy of an email I have sent to Sean Clarke informing him of my experiences today.

Message body

" Further to your last I would inform you that I missed a telephone call from Asda Money at my home address on Friday afternoon, 02/12/2016, which was answered by my wife.

She failed to record the callers name but was requested to ask me to contact them on 01217135980.

Three times this morning I telephoned the number and was immediately connected to music playing. The number didn't ring out nor was a taped message played, just straight into the music.

I rang a fourth time and again was connected to music. I was about to immediately hang up when the music ceased and the number rang out.

The call was soon answered by a female who asked me did I have any products with " Creation," who I found out about by searching the telephone number given on Google.

I replied no but informed her that I had applied for an Asda credit card. She took my details and put me through to the relevant department.

I was again answered by a female and had to repeat the same security answers. She advised me that she would search for my file whilst I stayed on the line.

Some EIGHT minutes later she returned to advise me that she couldn't locate the person dealing with my application and she asked if he could contact me by phone or email.

I asked her to use my mobile or email.

I have found this application very tedious to say the least, and downright amateurish.

I have a superb credit score, and all the other boxes to be ticked in any credit application are faultless to say the least.

Please desist with my application.

I regularly shop online and in store with Asda, as well as buying my fuel from your pumps, but to make my own little protest it is now a case of " Tesco here I come! "

I will be reviewing my experiences on Trustpilot, Review Centre and Moneysavingexpert. "

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I tried that, but it didn't work.
  • The card is not provided by Asda, as far as I know the credit card is provided by Creation Finance, so it will be them requested proof of address not Asda. I would direct your complaint to them.
  • Asda have lost a regular customer, so at least they should be aware of the consequencies, however minor my custom is in their overall financial picture.

If I needed the card then perhaps my attitude would be different.

What a strange approach. You're berating someone for adhering to Anti-Money Laundering / Anti-Fraud policy? Surely it's a good thing that they're secure. Why are you worried about proof of address...?
  • Far from berating anyone sticking to the Anti Money laundering laws, my objection is that they cannot use common sense to analyse the information that is in front of them.

I am not worried about proving my address.

I object to have to post a letter when the information is there for them to see clearly on my file.

Just to update I have received a phone call from Creation, from the person who attempted to contact me last Friday.

He has now offered me the card with a credit on it to compensate for the way I have had my application handled.

I declined his offer of the card and the compensation that went with it.

My bet is your not on Equifax electrol, only reason other was a flat. I don't blame them, they never asked me for proof
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Have you actually checked your credit report at all three agencies to make sure they all list you as being on the electoral roll?.
  • Yes. My address is on each, and I live in a house, not a flat.
  • OMG :T:T:T
Have you seriously got nothing better to do, they're gonna be lending you money so its not unreasonable for them to want id.
