Why would it run significantly better? Do you even understand how operating systems work?

I have given one reason above. I await one reason from you.

I do know quite a bit about how operating systems work actually, i have both MCP and MCSE qualitications and can program in raw assembly language amongst many others.
But my credentials are not really up for discussion here, i am willing to provide many examples to back up my statement, iv given one, now I am waiting to here why this is total !!!!.

Please explain to help the other people who are reading this

And I would respond by saying any program that hasn't released it's memory correctly should be programmed correctly. Alternatively, you can free the memory by manually closing those programs :-)

Your answer indicates that you have no clue how operating systems work yourself.

I assumed you were a troll ... Thank you for clearing that up

You understand how segmentation? Paging works? Or being a 'Microsoft Expert' I'm guessing you've done a bit of Visual Basic or something.

Could be worse eh? You could be a Mac.

Posted from my Linux machine which hasn't been shut off in 9 months :D

Yes of course, I fully understand both of those concepts.
Do you ? or are you just throwing out technical sounding words , because you have said nothing so far that indicates that you know anything at all about this subject.

Perhaps its best if you stick to discussing old cars in future.
Technical discussions are obviously a bit beyond you..

Uhmm..... all things considered, I think it's quite obvious I understand what they mean. I wouldn't have brought them up in this discussion otherwise.

Look guys, just reboot your computer, Andy the Microsoft guy says so :)

You have still failed to give one single reason why what i said was total !!!!.

You said you could go on all day, but still havent even given one reason

You do realise how stupid that makes you look - right ?

Except from the massive increase in wear and tear? Suppose you're right.

You've given a fairly flakey reason, in that it's freeing up some potential lost memory due to programs not exiting correctly. You claim my response to that was incorrect, without really stating why. Perhaps I'm out of touch with Windows, I've been using Linux for years so luckily I know how the init process works (to be fair, I routinely modify and recompile it :) )

Personally, rather than recommending you shut down your machine at night..... why not recommend a reboot at 6am every morning, if such a thing bothers you? Shutting down a hard working computer for 6 hours a day, will do it more harm than good, and if you don't believe that then you are completely deluded pal :)

No need for an answer, it's abundantly clear you don't. Why is it that anyone running linux automatically believes they're a computer systems expert!

Lets face it the main reason for keeping a computer switched on is convenience, nothing more, however, as has been explained there are very good reasons for rebooting it every now and then.

Also, in answer to Carrot007, logging on and off isn't "just as good".

What "massive increase in wear and tear", total garbage, and you still haven't provided any evidence that shutting down for any length of time does more harm than good.
