Growing scam numbers list

I am currently on 3 mobile. I'm using my mobile number that I've had for years.

In the last month or two I've had an annoying situation with scammers calling me very regularly. (Yes I know, a lot of people get this problem but hear me out.)

This is the same scammers that are calling me despite my efforts to call them. I block one number and they call me from another. If I didn't block the numbers, they would be calling me at least twice a day. Blocking the number results in 2 to 5 days of peace and quiet until they switch numbers to call from.

Here is my current list of increasing blocked numbers
+44 845 429 0081
+44 161 265 0133
+44 333 155 9768
075136100392
+44 20 3779 2157
+44 843 410 1027
+44 843 684 9970
+44 843 684 9084
+44 7513 610348
+44 20 3598 6946

I think one of those number is the voicemail service for my phone provider which I may have accidentaly blocked.

Most of these scam calls were automated messages with few actual people calling me with the exact same introduction as the automated messages.

If it's automated message, I hang up and block the number. If it's an actual person, I spend 5 to 10 minutes pranking them before they give up one way or another.

The automated message and real person introduction is exactly the same.
"Hello. You have the chance to win yourself an iPad or M&S vouchers."
If it's an automated message, it them tells you to press a certain number to confirm to desire, or simply hang up. If it's a real person, they then start asking you for your details to place you into the competition.

It's a shame that I haven't had a tech support scammer in a while. I kept having so much fun with them as I was using Linux :rotfl:

I wonder when the next real person scammer calls me. It gives me my laughs for the day when I prank them.

Please be aware that they are not actually calling you from any of those numbers.

What you see on your screen is a "presentation number" programmed by the caller. Those numbers will be fake random numbers that bear no relationship to the number of the landline or mobile that actually made the call.

The way that CLI works is that in ordinary use it shows you the number that the caller wants you to call them back on should you be seeing this as a missed call.

Obviously, when someone calls you from a normal domestic landline or mobile, their phone company shows the actual caller's number on your caller display so that you can call them back - unless they opt to withhold their number.

If a small business with multiple lines calls you, your caller display may show their main number, not the actual number of the supplementary line that made the call.

When an "outbound" callcentre calls you, you do not see the number for the actual individual landline that called you. They override the system to show you their central "inbound" number should you need to call them.

As for scammers and fraudsters, they use the same technology to show you any old random number. They may show a number that belongs to a bank and try to convince you they are calling from your bank. They may show a number in the same area code as you so you think a friend is calling. If you were to call the number back, you may find the number doesn't exist or may find someone who has no idea that someone else is faking their number as the caller. On other occasions, your caller display may show a bunch of random digits or complete nonsense.

You can be sure that caller display is no guarantee of anything. You can only know for sure who is calling once you speak to them and takes steps to validate their identity. If you cannot be sure of their identity (such as when someone calls and claims to be from your bank) simply hang up and then call them using the number found on their official website or paperwork.

When a scammer starts calling you "from another number", they have likely done nothing different at their end other than change the "presentation number" that will be shown on your screen by reprogramming a setting on their line.

there is a number on here somewhere that you can txt to be added to the call preference line. This has worked quiet well for me.

    2) you could always try answering one of them when you have time, be polite and tell them you don't want whatever they are selling. They may stop calling you then!
  • Surly they can sort the technology to show the correct number that is actually making the call.

That would really help stopping this annoying problem that blites nearly everyone!
The instructions on the box said 'Requires Windows 7 or better'. So I installed LINUX :D:D

Caller ID was never intended to show the number of who is calling. It is intended to offer a number that you can call back on should you be seeing this as a missed call. However, as with all frauds and scams, they subvert the system to show you whatever they want you to see.
