Many years ago when my Dad was alive his regular Sunday dinner was a large Aunty Bessie's Yorkshire pudding into that he put a tin of potatoes, a tin of mixed carrots and peas and a tin of stewing steak and banged the lot through the microwave for 5 minutes.

At the time I used to think it was funny, now I think it was a hot dinner many would be thankful for. ;)

Well done all on the recent wins guys! Updated mine today, had a fab win earlier this month of an iPad 9.7 :D which really boosted my total - only a few pound off £2017 now - fingers crossed I can get that by the end of the year :o

Also had a lovely win of a Picnic hamper which included a £50 Tesco voucher and 4 cinema tickets, as well as a couple of outdoor game sets - the kids can't wait for the summer to come back around so we can get out and play them.
    Thanks to all posters :A

no prep or waste and a good size for single people etc. Food banks often ask for them as they can't give out fresh foods and the tines don't perish. Same as asking for smash.

The tinned potatoes are actually pretty good for making potato salad or saag aloo with although the spuds have a tendency to explode.

Great now I just feel sad for everybody eating or buying tinned potatoes.

Food banks just make me feel cross that we have let down so many people and they have to turn to charity to eat.

Tinned tatties are just quick, easy and lazy, I can't believe you didn't know about them

Not much doing around here, I've had to cut back on comping due to things being super-busy at home but I had a WEM this morning - I have won £100 to spend at Angel's Face children's clothing :T

Looking for some help ladies and gents ;)

I am going to make a Christmas Hamper for our selves, I am thinking 100 items, mostly tinned stuff and maybe the odd Christmas/Luxury items.
We are not posh/extravagant folks so mostly basic stuff.

I will buy one tin in the local Spar/Co-Op each day, and put it into a box upstairs.

So name me 10 items 9 normal and 1 a bit nicer :D

(I bought a tin of Corned Beef earlier so I have made a start) :T

    1 Pek
    2 Fray Bentos puddings
    3 Custard Creams
    4 Shortbread
    5 Trifle
    6 Custard
    7 Jelly
    8 Cheese biscuits
    9 Beans
    10 Spahetti
    11 Ravioli
    12 Tea Bags
    13 Coffee
    14 Cocoa
    15 Corned Beef
    16 Pringles
    17 Peanuts
    18 Jaffa Cakes
    19 Terry's Orange
    20 Tin of Salmon
    21 Match makers
    22 Chicken soup
    23 Tomato soup
    24 Vegetable soup
    25 Peas
    26 Beans
    27 Carrots
    28 Potatoes
    29 Sweet Corn
    30 Nice biscuits
    31 Bourbons
    32 Half coated biscuits
    33 Pickled Onions
    34 Crisps
    35 Cereal
    36 Jam
    37 Marmalade
    38 Peanut Butter
    39 Chocolate spread
    40 Beef paste
    41 Salmon paste
    42 Bar chocolate
    44 Dilute Orange
    45 Dilute Blackcurrant
    46 Tin of Pineapple
    47 Meatballs
    48 Hot Dogs
    49 Sardines
    50 Tomatoes
    51 Tuna
    52 Spam
    53 Cans of coke
    54 Rice Pudding
    55 Christmas Crackers
    56 Chocolate coins
    57 Christmas Pudding
    58 Bag rice
    59 Packet of spaghetti
    60 Sketty hoops :rotfl:
    61 Ketchup
    62 Cereal Bars
    63 Toblerone
    64 Jam Pudding
    65 Chocolate Pudding
    66 Syrup Pudding
    67 Stewing Steak
    68 Stuffing
    69 Tube of Rolos
    70 Jelly Babies
    71 Tin of ham

Lots of really good suggestions that I wouldn't have thought of! We always have some mulled wine or mulled cider at Christmas so perhaps some of that? Smoked salmon would have to be my luxury item (lidl do some really nice smoked gravlax at a reasonable price), christmas cake, stollen, walnuts, jam/marmalade, canned cranberries, bread sticks, christmas pudding, sauce for your Christmas meat (cranberry/apple/horseradish). Also mince pies but they'd have to be one of the later bought items on the list :p

I live a sheltered life and don't go down the tinned aisle much?

Even when I was a student actual potatoes were so cheap I didn't think to look for an alternative.

MANY moons ago we used to take my boys to see Disney on Ice as part of their Christmas treat back then it was £25 per ticket so £100 for the four of us. So I dread to think what they cost now.

Hint...Take a big handbag and take your own pop and sweets, years ago it cost us £10 for a slush and a candy floss and the merchandise prices are horrendous :(

On the plus side the shows are REALLY good and worth seeing. :D

I hope you and Mr and the girls enjoy it, well done on your win :T
