AXA refusing DOC insurance on 'Van'

Well...
Hmm. A more likely explanation is that either you or the call-centre muppet at the other end got the wrong end of a stick somewhere. It's never, ever worked like you describe it.The person driving your car would always have been driving it under their own policy, and would have been responsible for damage caused by them. Their DOC may have been fully comp, so would have covered your vehicle, but more likely was always that it was third party, so they would have been personally liable.
And, ifyou're telling people that they can claim off the car's normal policy, that's because you think it's true, and it is dangerous because they may find themselves without the cover they were expecting, and with a very large bill...
People really should and read and understand their own policies.Franz_Ferdinand wrote: »Whoever informed you was wrong.Your poor advice is "dangerous" because others reading this thread in future will be mislead and could end up allowing a friend to use their car thinking that the third party cover you get with DOC cover is just a myth!
Have the decency to stand corrected and edit your posts giving your misleading "advice"
I also pointed out that DOC is normally third party only.
For anyone unable to comprehend post #33, I suppose you'll also tell me that I could never have bought car insurance at £10 pa.
or that I could never have had policies which not only gave me DOV (any vehicle not owned, not hired) but then went on to add, that I was also covered to drive any other vehicle which was owned by me, or hired to me . .
oh, and it wasn't a traders policy.0 -

Where exactly, did I give advise and did I even suggest the owner would have success claiming on his own policy?

Dangerously suggesting/advising that owners of vehicles who let their friends use them using DOC cover can claim for any damage caused by the friend off their own policy!0 -

An "Open" Certificate covering any vehicle owned by the policyholer or under a hire purchase agreement were commong until the 90's.
Insurers issued them as it made it easier for them to process a change of vehicle. They were phased out (Except for fairly specialist policies) at the behest of the government.0
