It can continue when you have reached state pension age.
OP, to be honest, any advice we give at the moment is likely to be completely different to what will be happening when you retire. There is no point in worrying about it now. Since you are paying bedroom tax it might be sensible to consider moving to a smaller property. This would at least reduce your expenditure.
You could also check (some excellent advice on this site) that you are minimising your expenditure where possible. For instance, making sure you are on the lowest tariff for electricity, finding the best deals for mobile phones etc. In other words giving your budget an overhaul. You could post on the DebtFree Wannabe forum - they are experts at reducing expenditure. If you could start putting away a little 'nest egg' then that would make good financial sense.
I am so sorry, I meant to write ESA - I'll make the correction.:o0 -
did you actually read their comments, before you tell me i am being rude!!
there was no help offered, they just assumed i am sitting here reaping in benefits that they think i may not be entitled to. thats what i think is rude!!
I think its more than reasonable to ask if you declared the £400 when claiming ESA as it would make a difference, at some point if you haven't declared it you will be asked for bank statements, if you have then its not a problem.
At retirement you will get the new SRP plus pip (if you still qualify) if not you could claim AA if you have care needs, a private pension would have an effect on HB and CT0 -

unless they are a benefits employee and i am being assessed, then no i fail to see how it is 'more than reasonable to ask if i had declared it'
but yet again for those having difficulty understanding YES it was declared when claiming.... for the last time!0 -
I think that people are asking questions to get the full facts before offering any advice.
If you take the questions the wrong way it may be better if you ask for advice elsewhere.0 -
you clearly know nothing about the benefit system or how it works because you have come here asking for an explanation of what you may receive when you reach pension age.unless they are a benefits employee and i am being assessed, then no i fail to see how it is 'more than reasonable to ask if i had declared it'

bearing that in mind, it is perfectly reasonable to also assumeme that you do not know the benefit rules regarding additional income.
yet you jump on anyone that tries to establish the facts and details of your claim.
just for your information ...
a fair few of the posters that have replied to your query do, or have worked within the benefit system.
maybe eating a little humble pie may make amends for your lousy attitude, but i doubt it0 -
at the moment i receive £400 a month from my employers, under a payment protection plan. Didnt know the plan even existed when i started my sick leave. Anyway, i also get incapacity {new ESA} and the highest level for both disability living and the care component {not been asked to apply for new PIP yet}, although dreading it and upset that it was supposed to have been a lifetime award.
anyway the point is, that they are the 3 avenues that i receive what i now live on. i receive help with HB and CT. but need to pay bedroom tax. what worries me is how i will live when these are no longer offered. obviously, my company wont continue to pay the protection plan for ever, so may want me to take redundancy or at 52 to retire early. then wont get ESA at retirement age and wont qualify for the new PIP. I will have paid enough NI to qualify for state pension, along with some HB and CT if lucky but is that all i will have too live on? will any other benefits kick in when no longer able to claim any help with disability?
i know this is still quite a way off, but will need to make plans for it in any way i can between now and then. sorry if i have waffled a bit, but it all kind of tumbled out, will be grateful for any advice given
I'm sure the folk on here, who offer excellent advice, will give accurate figures, but I believe the current expectation for paying State Retirement Pension once you'll be of an age to qualify, is 68. Many of the reports I've read lately are suggesting that it will be raised to 70 years old.
And I would expect that in the next 18 years it will be pushed back even further, so nobody can do anything but guess what benefits you would be entitled to when you receive SRP. I believe somebody suggested moving to a smaller property, so that you don't have to pay bedroom tax, so perhaps that's an avenue you could explore?
People are only asking questions so that they can give you as much advice as possible, and I've always been very grateful for the help that people have given me.
