Letting Agent Lease Renewal Fees

Hi Guys,

We currently have a rental property and the tenancy agreement is now up for renewal. They are attempting to charge us £125 to do this.

Based on the recent budget announcements will these fees be disallowed soon? If so when we they become unable to charge them? Our agreement is not due to renew till January so wondering if we can avoid paying it.

    Just refuse to sign and you'll go on a rolling contract.

    Ignore it and let the renewal date pass.
  • Is it normal for letting agents to charge. The landlord is keen on a fixed term agreement which is part of the problem. I can chat with the landlord though as they just live up the road :)

    For the time being, yes. So cut out the middle man. It may well be the LL is also being charged by the agent for this renewal.

    Get rid of the leeches.

    The only possible downside to not renewing is that the landlord can then start eviction (presuming his side if the contract is in order).

    My agent charge me (as the LL) and I think it's extortionate at £80 so I've just let it go to a rolling contract. I assured my tenant I wasn't looking to replace her. A new fixed term does give some security both ways. If you're a good tenant then ask the landlord if they're happy to go on a rolling contract.
