On Amazon out of 12 reviews for these lamps (13 now I've added my own!) 2 give 1 star and say they all failed within a short period of time. It's a small sample size but suggests 16% of customers find the lamps totally unacceptable.

Not that I ahve any strong opinion on your current issues, and clearly your struggling to get a suitable resolution to a product defect your purchased in good faith, but cherry picking stats like this is rediculous. 2 1 star reviews (your included) out of 13 is a fact, but so is the fact that there are 10 more reviews at 4 or 5 stars...so your "16% of unhappy customers" remark also suggests 84% of HAPPY customers...which as also mentioned, the faft your more likly to leave a review of a negative experience, doesnt really help you out.
  • Which stats should I cherry pick? These reviews are for the product I purchased. Would it be better if I chose reviews from a different, unrelated product?

2 negatives. 3 now that I've left my own. Ignoring my review, if 16% of their lamps are failing quickly, that's not a very good indication of likely customer satisfaction. If for every 100 BMWs sold 84 broke down completely and had to be scrapped after 1 year then their reputation might begin to suffer... (But hey - they would have 84% happy customers!)

The electrician and E+E specifically warned against the Megaman 7w GU10s. Interestingly, their 6w GU10s have statistically much better reviews. More like 5% negative. Whilst the percentage of negative reviews does not necessarily reflect an accurate picture of underlying positive / negative experiences, the fact that the reviews for 7w GU10s have near 3 times the negative proportion suggests much lower satisfaction levels for this product.

And in terms of only 7 lamps having failed. It was 6 lamps a few weeks ago. Now 7. How many in another month's time? Total spend 8-900 for these 'premium' products.

But anyway, this is all besides the point. I'm interested in advice as to how to go about getting these lamps replaced. Relevant to one of BT's points: I bought them myself from E+E. They were not bought by a tradesperson on my behalf.

Genuine thanks to all those trying to assist.

It has already been explained to you how it is a complete and utter nonsense to deduce such figures from online reviews.

I suggest you are attempting the impossible. 7 lamps have failed which is hardly disastrous. It appears the wholesaler has been genuine and honest with you. These lamps have been replaced even though some may be well outside the guarantee period. So well done E+E. The remainder of the lamps work, they will not be covered by a typical guarantee so you cannot expect somebody, somewhere, to fund the cost of buying, or replacing these working lamps.

In addition, you chose to go to a wholesaler to buy the lamps. Had you sought somebody with an active, healthy trade account located there you would have some extra leverage.

Lamps have dropped in price a significant amount in recent years, but you appear to be overlooking this. If you purchased the same today you would not be spending as much.

The consensus is Megaman is a useless company. You have no contract with them, and you were unwise to seek out their products.

Sometimes one has to be realistic and cease battling. Listen carefully to the advice being given and then act on this.

I would put all this down to a lesson in life and move on.
  • Furts, thanks for your reply but no lamps have been replaced!

Apologies there - I read again your post! You replaced them, but I still stand by my comments. E+E have been fair and reasonable offering a two year guarantee on a light bulb. They are a commercial business and cannot do anything for you outside this period. This is a simple statement of commercial logic.

I have commissioned expert reports, I know what they cost, I know what work is involved in disputes like yours. Would I go through all that over seven light bulbs? To state the bleedin obvious, the answer is no!

You seem determined to plough on, regardless of the advice being given to you. I wish you well.
