O/S Daily Friday 2 December 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but not as cold, so no frost this morning, it clouded over yesterday afternoon, hoping we don't get any rain though.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work, and DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns/sliced potatoes, mushrooms and beans - all eaten and enjoyed. Not sure what we'll be having tonight, but I'm going food shopping first thing, so will organise it then.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I did get going with the washing, drying and ironing, but as there was so much the dirty wash basket isn't empty yet - will continue with this today, I also did a quick round of housework, so house doesn't look like a show house but it's ok. I'm satisfied with how much I got done yesterday but wish it could have been a bit more! This morning first thing, I'm going to do my food shopping, and my friends are coming to pick me up to go to a funeral at lunchtime, we're only going to the Church part of the service so should only be gone an hour or so, but it depends how long they want to stay when we get back, I have to offer them a cuppa at least - I was planning if I can to get some soup made this morning, then if they want some lunch I can offer them that with a fresh roll/slice of baguette. I would like to get some baking/cooking done too this afternoon, so we'll see. I'm not working tomorrow, so if needed I could do it then.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the thread. It feels mild again this morning. Most welcome after the severe frosts early in the week.
Just having a quick second coffee before going up to waken up the DGDs and face the usual mayhem. Once they have been dispatched to school I'll have my breakfast in peace and then make a start on the Friday clean round. I hate Fridays!
There's a bowl of Bolognese Bake left from yesterday so that will be Mr TA's lunch. I shall have the remains of the L & B soup and a bagel. Not christened tea yet but probably chicken cooked in some way or another.
Enjoy your Xmas meal GERS, the venue sounds interesting! Good news LW. (((HUGS))) as always to LAINEY, COXY, LWW and HILSTEP and anyone else in need or want of one. Take care all and have a good day if you can xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

I need to buy chicken wormer. I'm going to order medicated feed, it works out a bit more expensive this way, but I'm not sure that the feed and treatment mix together evenly when you do it yourself, no matter how careful you are.
I haven't had a chance to go Christmas shopping properly yet and I don't want to leave it another week. As I'll already be in front of the laptop with my debit card, I'll just carry on shopping
I'll make sure I have one trip into town in the next couple of weeks, I don't like it busy so will go early but I like to see the Christmas things everywhere even if I'm not buying anything, lol.

Morning all
Thanks for the thread NMLC, thanks for the song Tru, glad to hear your news LW, hugs to Lainey, Coxy, Hilstep & LWW.
I'm off to work in a sec, no frost here either so it's a bit warmer, it was -3.5 yesterday, and it was a very long day, I was up at 5:30 and it was gone midnight before I got to bed.
I'm really fed up at work and I'm appalled by how badly some of my hard working colleagues are treated, the whole place is turning into a 'If your face fits' sort of clique, it doesn't affect me directly as I work on my own anyway, but I am upset on other people's behalf.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc xx
Didn't get to post yesterday as had to put the rubbish out, sort out two packed lunches and sort washing and tumble drying before work....seems nothing has changed except I get less time to do everything here
DH shifted two ton bags of chippings from kerbside to the back garden yesterday, single handedly, so he is not all bad. Hoping that white stones on the circular path around the pond will prevent our dog taking another dip.
Work was manic the last two days as I'm looking after two busy people whilst a colleague is on holiday. Had to buy posh sarnie lunches for them the last two days too, and serve it and clear up. All in a day's work and needs must. On the whole I'm glad I made the move though.
Thanks tru for the musical accompaniment these last two days. I'm not feeling the Christmas spirit at all due to nephews passing, but have managed some online gift shopping for my three children. My heart just isn't in it this year tbh.
Possible girls night in at a friend's tonight. I am driving as I have a lot planned for tomorrow in the way of errands and it's also DS1's school fayre. He would like to go and I have ordered a Christmas pudding from the pta so need to collect it.
Hope all those with poorlies, or feeling poorly are doing ok. Lainey - hugs to you and dear mum xxx

Morning all,
Very cold here again today I am still full of grot but do feel a bit better I think its on the way out, I spoke to my boss yesterday who told me to stay off the rest of the week and get better so got today off too.
Its OH's Birthday today (Its the 5th family one this week !! ) he thinks he is starting with my cold though I hope not as its a shocker.
My fil has very kindly given dd a car  he had two cars and this was his little run around, we insured it last night first quote was £1800 but with a few tips from Martin we got it down to £900 :money:fully comp with breakdown cover, its still a huge amount of money but good for a new driver.
Will have a look in the freezer in a while for something for dinner, I might do a nice curry which OH loves, we are eating out tomorrow night to celebrate all the birthday's.
Hugs to all in need and have good days all xx
Good news re the all clear Lamewolf xx0 -
Morning All
Very mild here thank goodness as the back of the house seems to be open to the elements and no kitchen door. I wasn't in for long last night as a neighbour had invited me to dinner - beautiful lasagne and a glass of grape juice!
There is now a kitchen floor, most of it was ripped up due to the woodworm, the rest will be sprayed today hopefully just as a precaution. There is plasterboard on most of the walls so an amazing amount of progress yesterday.
Apart from cleaning the downstairs bathroom each night, I've pretty much given up with trying to clean up, hoping the WM and TD can be connected somewhere tonight for the weekend, the washing is piling up now.
Good news LW, must have been a worry hanging over you.
Hope those having a rough time are coping, we're here to listen.
Off to work now, my early finish which cheers me up no end. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks. Thanks for the thread nmlc and thanks for the carol Tru.
My long drive yesterday was done in bright sunshine so I really enjoyed seeing old familiar roads again. The M74 goes through beautiful scenery. Mind you I had forgotten how fast travel is on 'big roads' so may just potter back up the old parts of the A74 tomorrow.
I'm now still in bed listening to the sound of traffic outside. My friends live very close to the big DWP / ministry offices so it gets going early. Another thing I had forgotten about - rush hour traffic in Newcastle! It was very strange to be in crawling / stationary jams again though it made me be thankful about my tracks with passing places.
Lunch off trowels coming up. Seeing a bunch of my friends is going to be delicious with or without trendy food.
Happy Friday everyone.0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the song TRU one of my personal favourites.
Thanks for the thread nmlc, hope all goes well at the funeral x
Dull and overcast here but thankfully not as cold, I slept better last night, only woke up once and fell back asleep relatively quickly, must have been the wine!
Will text my SIL soon to see how she is and if I'm needed to help with Mum this morning, if not will crack on with some chores as bit behind. I am supposed to be meeting up with my friend this afternoon but she also has a bad cold so will have to see. Would be nice to see her but a part of me would like to just flop on the sofa and watch an old film.
Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of LW and HIllstep x
Hugs to Coxy x
Take care folks x0 -
Good morning all,
Glad for a good night sleep, still basking in the warmth of the bed and might be here for yet another while. DH has bootcamp this morning, I used to go too, before the hips started rebelling. She would adapt exercises for me and I stopped running, but after a while it felt uncomfortable not only physically, but it was like being the doddery old thing among fit younger people, so I stopped going.
I am not even going to the older people class at the moment, it is more to do with the low mood than the hips, I must make myself start exercising again, it's good for me and it might even help the mood.
No real plans this morning, just pottering, then I have the chiropodist come to cut my toenails. Another indignity of the hip arthritis, I cannot reach to cut them myself, bother.
Later this evening DS is coming so that's a positive thing in my day, and also evening yoga class.
Food plan:
Breakfast will be eggs, prob. onion omelette.
Lunch split pea and veg soup, pear and cheese (should not eat dairy but cannot resist a little slice of cheese with the lovely juicy pears I got in the veg delivery).
Dinner is buckwheat pasta with romanesco cauliflower, chopped and saut!ed in oil with garlic and chili, a firm favourite of DS's.
Hugs to all who need them and best wishes for recovery to the poorlies. Happy birthday to those with a birthday.
Have a good day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning all. Lainey, Coxy, Hilstep and LWW ((hugs))
Tru Thanks for the carol. I remember you doing it last year. I love it. A cheerful start to the day.
LW Great news about DH. Must be a great load off your minds.
Gers Enjoy Newcastle and the trowels! I too appreciate the lack of traffic up here after learning to drive in London.
Coxy I know what you mean about nothing changes, just less time to do everything. I was out last night. DH rang me at 1700 to say he was getting home early, so I said could he make his sandwiches and prep the breakfast stuff so I didn't have to do it. Got in at 2000, he'd gone to bed and done nothing. He woke up as I got into bed at about midnight after having dinner etc and said 'I've set the alarm for 0630 as I don't have to get up tomorrow.'
I took great pleasure in my alarm going off at 0545 because I had to get up fo a gym class. Grrrrrrr.
Redruby What a lovely Xmas present for DD.
Camelot As of yesterday I have a lovely smart new back door. No FurryBeast hole any more:( but it looks great and already feels a bit warmer.
Right, must get arris in gear and do some housework as I'm not in Ayr today. Already been to the gym so I might allow myself another cup of tea first:rotfl:
Have a lovely day everyone:DGoals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0
