Appreciate views on this offer from BT (Is Infinity worth upgrading to)

I currently have unlimited broadband from BT, The service is generally ok although there are times where the browser sits trying to resolve the website address. Also, if my daughter is using IPlayer, it is close to impossible for anybody else to browse.
BT have just offered me Infinity 1 (52Mb) for £8 per month with £50 connection and £9.99 delivery for new smart hub on 18 month contract. I purchased the smart hub a few months ago so do not need this, but I guess I can ask to leave this.
My questions (1) Does this sound like a good deal or are others getting better deals (I am a long standing customer). My current contract ends Feb 2017. (2) Would I notice the difference changing to infinity, will I get quicker response when browsing, will it allow my wife and I to use the web if our daughter uses iplayer, etc. Just interested to hear from anybody who has made the switch - is it worth upgrading.
Thanks for any information / advice.

You need to post full details of your current ADSL i.e. speed, line stats, because if you have such a bad connection on ADSL now, then changing to fibre may not be much of an improvement.
Determine why your current broadband is so bad before deciding.
BT are not the only ISP, so what else is available on your exchange e.g. LLU?0 -
Hi Rubidium, The internet is generally ok apart from times when the browser appears to be waiting for the website name to be resolved. Router states
Downstream 17.27Mbbs
Upstream 1.27Mbbs
Line attenuation, etc is all showing at 0 - the router does not appear to show this correctly. Bug?0 -
I would be happy for my BT infinity 1 to be only £8 pm + Line Rental .0

If you're getting 17Mbps downstream, I'm surprised you're getting buffering if someone else is using iPlayer. iPlayer needs less than 5Mbps so you've got plenty spare. I wonder if your router is struggling? - you could upgrade that: Home Hubs are cheap on eBay or look for another model that suits you better.
Bear in mind that Infinity won't be £8 after the contract term ends. If you're happy for a price increase (to around £22 per month), to haggle, or to switch ISPs in 18 months time then it might be worth it.
I switched to fibre last year having had 17Mbps on ADSL, and haven't noticed much difference except when downloading software updates etc so will definitely look to going back to ADSL at renewal, although I'm glad I tried it.0 -
Just for info... I have ~ 16Mb download on ADSL -This morning I had I player open on the PC, my wife is streaming Youtube for the grandchildren on a Chromecast attached to the lounge TV and I opened up a streamed Sky channel on Now TV on a further TV - ALL 3 streamed perfectly without buffering.
Presumably the 17.27Mb figure is synch speed ...what is the ACTUAL connection speed? You may either have congestion at exchange level causing an issue OR you may have had frequent disconnection events which have restricted your I.Profile.0 -

Many thanks to everyone for the info and the above is very interesting. BT checked my service and told me there was an issue with the router. I have hard reset it and I have to say that browsing appears to be faster (as in there is no big delay in waiting for the initial page load). I will test things this evening with somebody streaming TV. Thanks again0
