Hello, I'm really sorry - I don't usually come on to forums and I'm new here so didn't realise that i was doing anything incorrect. It was not my intention to offend - I was just hoping for some advice and was told MSE was a good place to go. I posted a new thread when I read more and discovered that this one was a discussion on being spooked about personal safety after Lidl staff requested a reg number. I wasn't asked for mine so wasn't spooked..... had I been asked for it I might have been able to avoid my problem.0 -

It's not about offending anyone - it's just that if there are specific queries then they're better off in their own thread because the potential for confusion if there are several questions being replied to at once is quite high, that's all.

I received the invoice today and forwarded it to Lidl with this message
Dear Ms Johnston
Thank you for your reply. I have received the attached invoice. Please could you ensure that it is cancelled.
To be charged £90 parking for making purchases at Lidl for 21 minutes is utterly appalling. There was certainly no sign to this effect visible from my car as I drove into the car park. The only visible sign as I drove in was "90 minutes free parking for customers". The last time I shopped at Lidl Eastbourne there was no such system in place, and no other supermarkets in the area have any such policy.
I look forward to your confirmation that I will not be contacted by "debt collectors".
I would like to remind you that you are being paid to deal with this correspondence but I am not. Please therefore confirm that Lidl will make a donation of £50 to a charity of your choice in lieu of paying me for wasting my time.
Yours sincerely
......

You're asking for her help here. I'm not sure the tone of this para is your best strategy at such an early stage.I would like to remind you that you are being paid to deal with this correspondence but I am not. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

You realise that your reg number is displayed very clearly on both the front and rear of your car? Hardly personal information! My local hospital are now using this system and I promise you I have never run into a problem, in fact it is now much easier to find a space!!
Signage is EVERYWHERE there so they are doing something right and I for one am just grateful that they havent gone down the road of charging everyone for parking like the other hospitals!
As far as i can tell the only hindrance it has been is for the local office workers who can no longer park there all day for free and take up the few spaces there are!0 -
Thank you for all the posts disagreeing with me. I don't need any more thank you.0

Thanks for all the advice everyone, but I would not have entered the car park at Lidl today if I had known I would have to give personal information (even if only a car reg number) to the cashier. That's my personal policy and although you all mean well, I'm surprised some of you don't respect it. All I saw was a huge sign saying 90 min free parking for customers.
I take it you also don't use car parks with CCTV? Or roads for that matter?0 -

Or park outside shops where the cashier can see your number plate by looking through the window?
Our new M&S foodhall refunds the charge for 1.5 hrs parking (50p) when you spend more than £5. You have to input your car registration number into the parking meter, place half of the ticket on your windscreen and then hand the other half to the cashier. Both parts have your car registration printed on them. I'd rather do this than find that I can't park because the car park is full of 'town' shoppers.0
