Thanks for all the advice everyone, but I would not have entered the car park at Lidl today if I had known I would have to give personal information (even if only a car reg number) to the cashier. That's my personal policy and although you all mean well, I'm surprised some of you don't respect it. All I saw was a huge sign saying 90 min free parking for customers.
Stick to your personal policy and hopefully you will stay safe.
You really do need to point this out to the MD of Lidl, you are not alone, far too many scams around and by entering the car park you entered into a scammers world0 -

I agree with your sentiments, but do you realise there are approximately 34 million images being recorded every day on Britain's roads for one reason or other not all by PPC's of course LOL!0 -

dont get us wrong , we DO respect that , and in some ways I do the same and dont just give info out willy nilly (unlike many newbies on here that think its ok to post personal info , registration numbers and usernames on a public forum that 7 billion people can read)
but its not us you should be telling , its the MD or CEO of LIDL0 -

I wrote to Lidl and got this reply:
Thank you for taking the time to contact our CEO. I have been asked to respond to you on his behalf.
As you are probably aware, Lidl UK GmbH is a national retailer. As such, we have stores in locations with limited parking space and in common with many of our competitors, our store car parks are abused to a significant and detrimental extent. We have therefore judged it necessary to take measures so that our stores parking facilities are available first and foremost to our customers.
In order to ensure that sufficient parking spaces are available at all times to our customers, Lidl employs third party contractors to monitor and control our car parks. So far, this service has proved reliable and effective in reducing car park abuse and in freeing up spaces for our customers.
Unfortunately, we are unable to stop a charge from being issued unless you provide your car registration number at the checkout. The terms and conditions are set out on the signage within the car park.
I can advise that Lidl do not receive any of your personal information, Athena who are employed to manage our car park have licence which allows them to receive this information from the DVLA.
Should you receive a charge, and wish for me to appeal this for you I would kindly require the parking charge notice number.
Your comments regarding the parking restrictions have been passed top the relevant department.
Thank you again for contacting us.
Yours sincerely,
For and on behalf of Lidl UK GmbH
Laura Johnston

Hello everyone,
I have a "Parking Charge" from Lidl - well technically its actually a demand for money with menaces. All I did was go shopping, wasn't asked for my reg, it was dark and I had no idea I was only given 90 minutes free and I was 107 minutes..... 1 till open, had to go back as overcharged etc - the usual!
Its been suggested that I complain to Lidl about the charge as it will get dropped however, do i do this and admit to being the driver? This then puts me in the firing line - is there a set way I should word my complaint? Any help gratefully received, I only have 2 days before the 28 days are up!
Thanks0 -

You shouldn't jump in like this on someone else's thread, especially when you have one of your own recently opened.
If you post your question on your own thread I'll point you in the direction of a complaint to Lidl; I won't do it here. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

If they are using ANPR, then the PPC will already have your car registration number. By giving it to LIDL, you will be confirming you are a genuine shopper and won't receive a parking ticket unless you stay too long.
You are not being asked to give your name and address and, for the life of me, I can't see how you are disadvantaged.
Hotels and other places use this system to identify bona fide customers.
If LIDL wanted to use this for nefarious purposes relating to some sort of personal delving to target yyou with sales information, they would find it easier to use your credit card info and, if you think about it, the ANPR cameras capture all traffic entering their car park anyway.0
