OP, there was likely a mobile speed camera van parked up somewhere on the route and was zapped by that.

The letter you have will no doubt identify the means of detection and a road where detected.

They are cameras monitoring speed for a temp period of 1 week to assess possible reduction of limit to 20mph but evidence not used for purpose of speed tickets.
