O/S Daily Thursday 1 December 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 also gone to work, DS2 still asleep, but I'll wake him shortly.

Still dark here, dry, cold and very frosty again.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, roast potatoes, LO cauli/broc cheese, carrots, brocolli, LO yorkshires and gravy, dessert was tiramasu and cream - was naughty but sooooo nice. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms and beans.

Work yesterday was not that busy doing the job that I was doing, but my colleagues had a very busy day, I'm now on days' off, and I go back to work on Monday - have shed loads to do - first thing this morning I'll be heading to the bank and building society, then home to crack on with the mahoosive pile of dirty washing, drying and ironing, the house is a tip too, so main jobs will just be to get washing etc done and housework - anything on top of that is a bonus.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread nmlc. It's mild here again though I think it's damp.

I'm all packed for my trip and ready to go. Just got to teach for two hours first. I've prepped for that too. Organised for a change.

My trip is to meet up with old friends in Newcastle for a Christmas lunch tomorrow and I'm so looking forward to seeing them again. We're eating at a place with a tree growing through it and the food is served on trendy things like trowels and little wheelbarrows! Not my style at all but my friends find it fun. I find my friends fun so it works out well.

Right, off to start my day. I hope that everyone has a good Thursday. Mine will be made better when Tru posts!
  • Morning all.
Brrr, chilly here and thick frost, the car didn't take much scraping as I cleared it last night when I collected my L&M from work.
It will be a long day today as we were up at 5:30 and I will collect my L&M at 10:30 tonight.
I picked up the co-op deal for my DD's yesterday, fish fillets, fish fingers, chips peas and ice cream, all for £5.
I'm posting from work so better get a move on.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning folks. Thanks NMLC. Flying visit from me. We need to be out of the door by 7.45 with the girls washed, dressed and hair done, ready to drop off at school breakfast club when it opens at 8.00. Then onwards to the hospital for my appt with the Urologist at the hospital at 9.00. It will be another complete waste of time with an arrogant young registrar getting my back up again and offering no helpful advice. I don't know why I bother going to be honest.

Just having another quick coffee before I get the girls up and get us all dressed.

After the appt we will do the Thursday shop though, after the big shop on Saturday, I don't need a great deal.

ELONA if it was the new Victoria Gate centre you were visiting in Leeds I hope you kept your purse shut!! Absolutely beautiful but such expensive shops!! I was glad to escape into the market where it's my sort of prices!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need/want. Take care xx

Still cold and frosty here. Five of the chickens have taken to sleeping on the shelf, all spread out. There's no bullying and it's their choice to go up there but I feel sorry for them, they must be cold. As soon as I see them heading to bed, I go down and move them onto the perch with the others. They all shuffle up next to each other, seem to realise it's warmer and more comfortable and stay there for the rest of the night :D

I have a bit of work to do, shouldn't take long. Then it's just the usual housework today.

  • Morning all and thank you for the thread nmlc.

I'm just about to head off to work.

I will, on my return, be explaining to my O.H and DS that, if one of them has a shower before bed and chooses to finish with an energising spritz of freezing cold water, it woukd be kinder to inform me or even, shock horror, to turn the thing back to warm in order to prevent screeches from the bathroom at what they term an ungodly hour. I am perfectly capable of freezing my bum off by less wet methods.

And if you set the alarm on your phone to crow loudly like a rooster, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take it to bed with you. Taking your backup alarm clock wouldn't go amiss either.

Slightly less cold, at least above freezing, must go, hope everyone has a tolerable day. For myself, the shower experience was er...bracing.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning all

tru thank you so much, we are officially on countdown.

It doesn't feel quite so cold this morning. We are popping into town to have a mooch around and if the car has been de-iced in time will drop DGD off at work

We have a small Christmas market in town, so will have a look around that

TA good luck with your appointment, I know you don't hold out much hope .

    Morning All

Thanks tru - been looking forward to the carols every day. Why are chickens a bit daft?
Gers - Have a great time in Newcastle.
Hope DM is feeling better this morning Lainey.

Much of the kitchen floor is missing! The woodworm seems to have been rampant, hoping that gets replaced/sprayed today. All the socket boxes are in, they are hoping to put some plasterboard up today. New window and door not arriving until next Wednesday but I'm sure they will have enough to do till then!

Dry again here, it was 11.5 degrees when I came home from work yesterday, hoping for another mild day today.

    Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Very cold here again I am still poorly but may be slightly on the mend, I took a dose of night nurse last night which knocked me out and let me sleep without coughing so I had a good night I am still full of grot so will take the day off again and see how I am in the morning.

Tru, I am Loving Loving Tru's carol corner :T:j cant wait to see if 'my' song is played :D

Not sure what's for dinner tonight as we really don't have a lot in will go and look in the freezer after this.

Not a lot of housework has been done over the last few days and I suspect not a lot will get done today either, did manage to do an online shop yesterday which is coming tonight so we will at least have some food in.

    Have good days all xx

Hugs to all in need x

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc x

:j it's the first of December and we are on Tru's countdown, love this tradition.
Have that wet rag feeling after another bad nights sleep, my mind will just not switch off and it's driving me mad :( didn't help having an hours drive home after the evening with SIL and DN's but was worth it as lovely to catch up. I cheated and picked up some goodies from Mr Sparks on the way over so we just snacked on those, doesn't hurt now and then & was cheaper than eating out.
DM was still very tired yesterday, her energy levels are flagging as the lack of food etc impacts, we are trying our best to pack as many calories as possible into what she eats but fighting a losing battle am afraid. I will go over later this morning and spend the afternoon with her.

Right, better get going, have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Sending sympathetic vibes to you and your family Lainey.

It's a horrible time for you all, and of course, for your Mum.

    Thinking of you.
