Haggling with Virgin Media as a new customer?

I'm thinking of switching to Virgin media for fibre optic broadband. I'm looking specifically at their 50mb offer (broadband only) which is £27 a month for 12 months then £32.25 thereafter. I'm currently with Sky broadband unlimited, and my free broadband contract (i.e. I'm only paying £17.40 for line rental per month) is ending so will be going up to £27.40. If I'm paying virtually the same price (cheaper in fact), I'd rather get fibre optic.
Someone said I should ask about getting 70mb instead of 50mb for the same price, as they were offered that incentive. Do you reckon there is leeway to haggle anything else?
The alternative is I could haggle with my current provider Sky for a better deal on normal broadband or a deal for upgrading to fibre optic which is currently £37.40 a month, but only 38mb. It does however, include a phone package which I do not need.
I'm in the mood for switching to Virgin - but just slightly apprehensive!

I did a similar thing.
There was no way I was paying Sky £27 for 1Mbps.
so I went back to virgin.
Sky used to do a discount for BB down to around £2.50 ? in the 2nd year if you said you were going to leave, so it's worth using your online account and select "I'm thinking of leaving because of price" and see what they offer.
or phone them up.
50Mbps will be plenty.0 -
I'm about to leave Sky because I'm fed up with a poor connection. Bought a new router because there appears to be a fault with the Sky router, only to find that with Sky broadband it's impossible to use any equipment other than Sky's own.
They want to "upgrade" me to the newest Sky hub, but it's no good for me as it only has two LAN ports as opposed to the four ports that my hub has. Not to mention poor reviews.
Virgin is looking to be favourite at the moment, although I'm still shopping around.0
