I feel the same as you, this year my house has got to the point that I have so much clutter I have stopped even my family calling round on speck, cos its so embarasing.in a nut shell, I cannot walk into anyroom without stepping over piles of rubbish( usually papers etc) kitchen tops get tidied but within the day piles of stuff on them again, charity clothes etc are left cos I wait for a bag to be delivered or for school to have a weigh in day, the children cannot play in the room because of my junk, not theirs,
I keep stupid things that I know this is small but an example - the elastic band that comes round letters gets saved but left on the side, a coupon from a magazine, books, craft stuff, carboot piles,the pile of newspapers for the blue bag, then washed out milk cartons for the plastic bag, and a pile of cardboard for the cardboard bag!
I have piles of ebay stuff ( and I am listing like mad) but it constantly feels that I move things from A to B.
Everyspace is full of things under tables, behind sofas, the garage I have even taking to covering up boxes with blankets at the side of the rooms ( all rooms) as a temp fix - that was last January, though the stuff underneath is needed or at least needs ebaying.
stuff like pots, washing, ironing, bathroom and daily cleaning is done, but stuff is just pushed in cupboards or doors just closed so that I carnt see it. I changed a bedroom to a computer room, and everyday I squeeze in, sit in a little corner and try find the keyboard - so I guess you get the picture
I now feel quite sad saying all this and it is very embassing,tomorrow is a new day. I begin flylady cleaning and start somewhere in this mountain hell hole. I want a beautiful, relaxed house by christmas
please help.
sorry that all turned into a long rant.0 -
Confession is good for the soul. I know it's terrible when you feel like this but it is good to know that i'm not alone! (although I wouldn't wish it on anyone
)
It seems easy in theory, doesn't it? I get disapointed in myself for not managing the house better. I want to do it for the family as well. It's not fair on them. I was brought up in a tidy, clean home and would have hated it if my mum was like me. I have books on Organizing From The Inside Out, House Doctor, How Clean Is Your House, and on overcoming procrastination (haven't read that one yet..) I have loads of (empty) storage boxes and drawers. I know HOW to do it. It's getting motivated.
On the positive side - my dishes are always done and my sink and cooker is always clean. I just need this habit to spread to the rest of the house!0 -
Tracey - you're not alone, that's exactly how we live. My son's been asking for a friend to come and play for weeks now and I keep saying when it's tidy!! But it's mostly my fault it isn't. I had a very houseproud mum who was the sort who washed the plates whilst you were still eating off them, and I think it stems from that. But I'm realising that I can't live like this either.
Jackie - I have all the books too! Bit like losing weight, I know what to do, it's getting the motivation to do it that's the problem
Nice to know I'm not alone in feeling a complete failure at this house stuff, guess that's why we found this forum to help us :j2025 - Declutter to Move House
