I understand. Our cat tray stinks as does the food and I hate it! As soon as I open the bedroom door in the morning I smell it. As soon as I open the front door to come in the house I smell it. Its embarrassing that the house stinks ( not all the time but you know what I mean) . I'm convinced some cat owners just become immune to the smell. I fail to see how piles of poo and cat food can't smell! The litter that seems the best is a scented pink one from tesco. I clean up as soon as there is mess which seems to be constant ( again its not but makes me feel that way). Yuck.

Cats who are raw fed have virtually odorless poo, often poo every other day as well. Smelly stools is a sign of poor quality food.

My cat eats rubbish food. Anything else makes him poo everywhere as he can't make the box and be sick. He's a felix as good as it looks cat. But he came that way we didn't do it to him.

He uses wood pellets. This was what we Laid our hands on first and coincidentally the same
Brand the vets who rescued him used.

He's a house cat as he has fiv.

He isn't allowed in the kitchen or dining room so he can't get on the kitchen sides. He's obsessed with that door as his food is through there. He basically never crosses the threshold of the dining room now even if we leave the door open when we fetch his food. I think he would if we left it open for long. I would hate him to be in the sides and it would be a deal breaker for me. Cats dig their poo with the paws that would be touching the sides. I'm a sucker for a sob story which is how we got conned Into taking the spikey one - but he'd be homeless again if that was one of his favourite haunts. He's also really thick so would get burned on the hob.

You'll get used to the smell do the cat food and just keep on top of clearing the poos. Every time we come in we clean a poop. He seems to go three times a day. The pellets muffle the smell a bit but the quicker it's cleared the sooner it goes. Haha. We do work so obviously some are there for a bit.

  • If you've only had him a couple of days he could just be pooping lots as he's somewhere new. When we got our cat he pooped about 4 times a day! Now its down to one a day but when we went on a long holiday my friend looked after him and he went back to 4 for the first few days. I think its just changes that make mine poo more. Also pooed more when we went on a mini break! Must have done about 8 poos in 3 days.

    I don't think it's the poo, it's the wee :)

Cleaned it all out again the other day and this time I filled it with a full bag and now I know what a wee ball is :)

I reckon I never had it deep enough so the wee was getting to the bottom of the tray and spreading, hence the vast amounts I was lifting out

He wees right at the front of the box so I'm making sure that's really deep

I don't think I'll ever get used to cat smell. It's just one of those smells I'm sensitive too

Now Alfie ( my dog) omg he did always stink :(. Between grungy ears and skin there was always a whiff of him, and he used to make wherever he parked his bum stink as well. Good job I loved him else he'd never have got a cuddle

Least Arthur himself has no smell :)

Ooooh do you line it with a bin liner?

The day I started doing this I did a little dance. He does sometimes snag the bag so the box still needs a proper wash put sometimes but is is usually clean

My boys have 2 trays. One is a sieve tray with wood pellet litter. They use it daily, for pees. The other one is their preferred tray, which they do both pees and poops in. I put clumping litter in there.

One boy has really messy poos, the other has neat, normal, more healthy-looking ones. Both are fairly smelly. They are fed mostly dry food (Porta 21 from Zooplus), wet food about once weekly. This is what they've always been fed, even before I had them. No idea why there's a difference in their poops. Must just be them. I don't think quality of food, etc, is always an indication to quality/smelliest of poop.

I don't know how anyone can clean trays only once a month! The less preferred tray I probably do this but the other, the one they poop in, needs a thorough daily, clean. I trialled putting heaps of litter in, to see how long it could go without smelling badly. But only managed a couple of days before I wanted to clean it again. It doesn't work for me to just scoop the poops - I still smell them afterwards. A small amount of litter and a daily complete clean works for my boys and I.

dried food is really bad for cats - esp male cats
All that has happened is one cats stomach is able to cope processing the carbs etc better than the other cats. Over time it will knacker both their systems - male cats are prone to v painful blockages due to crystals forming in their bladders when due to dried diets.:(

See, I keep getting mixed information on this. I know about the blockages and stuff. One of them did have a urine infection when he was a kitten (i think he may have had it with the breeder). I have a fountain to encourage drinking. And this is also why I give wet food as well. I don't want to switch completely to wet food because it isn't good for their teeth.
