What older cars do you notice on the road

Options
I'm interested to know what older cars you notice on the roads on a daily basis, still going strong.

On my morning commute in my 2002 plate xsara picasso, I noticed a few 02 / 52/ 03 plat Xsara Picassos, Toyota Yaris, and Nissan Micras.

Interestingly, I didnt notice many cars that traditionally depreciate less, and therefore I wouldve expected to see more of (Audi / Mercedes

I used to see a 1958 Morgan on a daily commute, or a 1972 Bond Bug, although i didnt see that during the winter months.

1978 Fiat X19 used to be seen daily, although it was one of the bosses so does that count? It was like new although most of it was new. He spent more on it than you could imagine.

1972 Range Rover used to get some winter use, although that was mine :)

Audis and Mercedes may depreciate more slowly, but when they go wrong they are expensive to fix. This means they never work as a Bangernomics car so they are scrapped.

However I do see plenty of Audi A2s around, last ones made about 10-11 years ago.
  • Saw a Morris Minor Shooting Brake, in 'traditional green' a few days ago. Looked to be in very good condition.

Strange to see they depreciate more slowly then, where as arguably, the popular bangeromics cars deprciate more quickly, but last longer?

Its as if people don't value the longevity of the car, but more the perceived status / luxury / fashion.

My MG ZT 2.5 v6 is 2001, so 15 years old. It'll probably last another year or two but I wont have it that long.

It will be mechanical failure that will probably be the death of it - apparently the timing belt is a nightmare to do on them (around £600+) so it'll be the failure of something like that that will probably kill it. Parts prices are getting silly now generally for them.

Bodywork is surprisingly very good - no rust on it, though a fair amount of scuffs and dings.

Older BMWs and Mercs tend to be worth little more than their mainstream counterparts, unless they're big engined or rare variants.

Lets be honest, what prestige is there in driving about in say, a 2002 318i SE poverty spec BMW? You may as well be in (an arguably better) Mondeo.

My Fiat Punto MK2 HGT is still going strong and everything still works apart from the CD changer. Bought it new March 2000.

My daily will be 17 in March, but I don't think of that as old. Last Saturday I saw a 1971 Buick Riviera parked locally, there's a few old Land Rovers around and I do notice a lot of 60s and 70s stuff when it passes. But I'm into classics, so I perhaps notice them more than some.
  • Mine is 18 (1998, bought in 2000).
As long as it passes its MOT tests it's good enough for me!
