Concern over delivery qty of oil

Options
I ordered 500 litres of kerosene through boilerjuice a few weeks ago. The firm hw humpreys and sons delivered within a couple of days. As the tank was locked (due to them turning up early morning), the driver removed the breather cap and filled the tank that way. When we checked the tank we found the cap has been cracked and has had to be taped up to prevent water getting in. The more concerning issue however was the fact they put a single slip through the door with a hand written quantity of 500 litres on, no meter reading on it at all. I have questioned with the oil firm and they promised they would send me the correct printed slip, two weeks on and they simply sent the same slip but with more corrections on it! I cannot guarantee that we have had 500 litres so have asked them to prove this which they dont appear to be able to do, giving two different excuses from the driver (one that it was raining and the second he hadnt put the slip far enough into the machine)

I have raised a complaint through paypal against boiler juice as it was them who recieved the money however they are not the ones at fault. Am I doing right and any further advice??

  • I had this issue previously myself! I changed and went to !!!!!!!!! for my next delivery and they advised me that for my own piece of mind I should contact Trading Standards the next time something similar happens. They can go out and check the meter on the truck etc and further advise you on the next steps to take. As the TSA is on your side, they'd be the best for impartial advice!

I have to agree with the above poster. Find your local council website, find the Trading Standards sections, and approach them. Oil deliveries are no different from the local garage petrol pumps - they have to be tested and approved by Trading Standards. Speak to them, and see what they say. And at least you then have the clout of the local council on your side - if they start investigating a company, they carry rather more weight than you or I :-)
