Unlocking my Samsung Galaxy S111

Unlocking my Samsung Galaxy S111
I purchased this phone from new a long time ago and it is locked to the '3' network.
I am currently still with '3' and don't have an issue with my current contract but would still like to unlock my phone because I can!!
Well it took over 3 weeks to get an unlock code from '3' despite being told 3to5 days.
I was also told I would only have one chance to input this code correctly so don't get it wrong.
Being an older person with little knowledge of smart phones this has made me a little uneasy.

I have obtained a simple pay as you go sim from Giff gaff as I was told I would need to put a new sim in phone and then I would be presented with a screen which would allow me to input my unlock code, simple as that (is it that simple?)

Question one: the new sim is out of the envelope and has not been registered as such and does not have any credit on it does that matter as I only wish to unlock the phone.

Question two: If this works can I then just remove the new sim and replace it with my old '3' sim and carry on as usual in the knowledge that my phone is now unlocked?

Question three: Have I over looked anything I should know.

Simple questions for most of you but please humour me.
Thanks.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    Yes

    Yes. You can now use any SIM you wish to in the phone including the ones you already have.
