Good Morning everyone and what a chilly one it is at the moment. Jack Frost has been and left a covering over everything this morning
I woke around 5.00 am as my joints were complaining about the cold and damp so today is going to be a bit slower than usualI am hosting the U3a coffee morning at Dobbies at 10.00 so by the time I have showered and had a big bowl of porridge (sound like Goldilocks
) I will hopefully be warm and a bit more mobile at least.
Mind you looking out of my window at the moment its looking very Christmassy with the white everywhere, the sky is just a pinky mauve colour so hopefully the sun will come up and make it a crisp day as yesterday was.At least its clear as I can see the River medway through the trees and even the other side so thats usually a good sign of a clear if cold day.Who needs fancy weather forecast when my joints tell me its damp and my eyes tell me if its going to be sunny
:):)
Tonight is quiz night so no cooking for me as i get something at the pub included with the quiz feereally good value as its only £2.00, usually pasta or a jacket potato with beans or cheese, but it does save me cooking on a Tuesday night I normally have a slightly more substantial lunch and with my bowl of porridge in the morning I am always not that hungry by the evening anyway .
DGS Ben is back at Uni for a few more weeks, then he is home on the 13th just before his 21st birthday.
Busy month ahead as this Friday is my eldest DDs 49th birthday so I will be there on Friday night .
Tomorrow I have my sis-in-law coming up to see me from Faversham as she is going to Mexico for three months to stay with my niece until February, a bit warmer there than the UK, although it does get cold in the evenings.
Had a nice 'freebie' lunch at Brewers Fayre with my voucher yesterday with my oldest friend who came down from Dartford. Her twin granddaughters are three, so she too is looking forward to the Christmas period. My grandchildren are now past the age of Father Christmas and toys and although its nice to see them growing up I do miss all the nonsense of the Christmas in the shops and seeing their faces when they went to see Santa:):) The youngest is 13 next year so he is past toys now ,its smellies and clothes and cash as a rule now
:):)
Still fingers crossed I will see Gt.Grandchildren come along eventually:):)
Right time for some hot coffee I think
have a good day chums what ever you are doing and <<hugs>> for the ones who are feeling poorly, sad, lonely or just fed up with life at the moment
Cheers chums

PS well done to your DD R/Ruby on passing her test0 -
Good morning,
Hugs to all who need them and wellbeing wishes to the poorlies.
Tru that must have been terrifying, glad you got moving after you warmed up!
Today I am a Horse in a Christmas story puppet show put up buy a church in my parish. All day! Arghhhhh, this is the one bit of being a parishioner that I don't like, the being volunteered for stuff. I don't mind some roles at all, I will be happy to cook and serve breakfast and dinner at the homeless night shelter, love making the Wednesday soup, but I really don't like working with children. I have raised my own and many more and am still doing babysitting and I have had enough! The person organising it all is a very forceful one and doesn't take no for an answer. There is one like that in every church and volunteer organisation, I suppose. They do a lot of good for the community and the parish but sometimes alienating individuals for the greater good of the community. Ah well, they won't catch me again on this one.
Wish me luck please, I really don't like facing this task with so little goodwill.
And of course immediately after this ends I have to go to work, babysitting. *groan*
Breakfast was scrambled eggs and smoked salmon (never again, at the first mouthful I realised how much I don't like this breakfast! Or maybe it's because I feel so contrary today?). Lunch will be some bought salad in between plays (6) and dinner is going to be steamed haddock with potatoes and buttered kale and cabbage. Luckily DH agreed to cook tonight because if it was for me after the long day I expect to have, it would be takeaway.
Aww sorry for moaning, but I will be glad when today has been and gone. On a positive note, today is my Friday, YIPPEE! Because the boys' mum does not need me on Thursday.
Edited to add well done RR' DD for passing her driving test!
Have a good day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Brrrr, it's cold here this morning. I am sat wrapped up in a big cardigan and have actually dug out my slippers as my feet were like blocks of ice. The girls have gone off to school and hubby has gone to work. Thankfully they managed to sort out his Christmas holiday so he still gets his time off as agreed back in April.
I put a chicken in the slow cooker before I went to bed last night so that needs to be stripped and refrigerated for my lunches in the week. I am making spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread for the family for tea. The mince is out defrosting as I write.
Not much planned for today. I will be making my card list and making sure I have made enough cards for everyone. If not, I will be making some this afternoon.
RedRuby, well done to your DD for passing her test and condolences on the loss of Sparky.
Caterina, I am sending you a ton of patience to cope with your task today. I am another one who doesn't like working with children, I think just because I had four girls I used to get 'volunteered' to help with creche etc and I am just not very good with other kids.
Coxy, I just wanted to say I am thinking of your DD especially, it is such a hard age with all the pressures they have let alone the sadness of recent events.
Well that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Caterina and Dumpling, I feel like I am a meanie because I have told my children that I will not take on their child care when/if they have children. All my friends (and sis-in-law) have the care of their grandchildren to varying degrees and as a result their lives revolve around being available. I know they are doing it to be helpful and because paid child care is so expensive but it's not how I want to spend my retirement years. To give them their due my kids have seen how their aunt has given up holidays and other things and said that they would never expect me to do the same. I've also told them I'll always help out in an emergency or as a treat, just not as a nanny. How do others feel? Am I being selfish or not?
RR congratulations to DD, it's such a relief when they pass, but then the worrying starts as well.
I've almost finished a baby quilt for DD's friend so I want to get it to the stage of handstitching the binding if I can. I also want to sort out the television storage drawers which have become a repository for junk.0 -
I feel the same re childcare, although it doesn't apply to us as my DGDs live abroad. I love to do the day to day stuff when we go, look after them etc, but it's a novelty for us to do that. I love them to bits obviously but I know I couldn't do it on a regular basis and know people who have become resentful.Carolbee0

Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Sniff, sniff, Cough, cough, eyes feel like they are on stalks and my nose is still running, sat last night with two tissue plugs in it was driving me nuts, every time I sneeze I have to 'clench up' otherwise there would be a mad dash to the toilet. Sorry TMI.
Its very white here this morning, so glad we got the heating done when we did, I have tripped it to be on all day, will light the sitting room fire after lunch and burn all the tissues.
The new cough stuff has had the desired affect on OH's cough, he did not cough at all last night. I was dosed up with paracetamol, vick etc and had a whisky, lemon and honey toddy; I actually slept right through, cannot remember the last time that happened. By the time I had been in the shower the nose was running good style again!!
I watched Martins programme last night re savings, I am looking for somewhere to put some cash for an emergency. Should one of us 'pop our clogs' there needs to be cash that can be accessed whilst things are sorted out. I am aiming for £6,000. We both have policies for funerals, but that may take time to come through. Change subject quick.....
Chiropodist here this morning. As its cold will not be venturing out till there is less risk of slipping, do not want broken bones to complicate things.
Tomorrow we are going to the library at Bingham and to do a shop at Aldi, enough to see us through until the week before Christmas when I will get veg fruit etc for the holiday.
OH has his jigsaw on the kitchen table, need to check whats on the menu tonight and get out what ever it is from the freezer.0 -
Morning all
Miss RR congratulations x
Hugs to all those having a tough time x
Up late this morning as picked DS up from the station at 5 so was up at 4am so popped back to bed for a bit . Freezing cold today I had to scrape the car this morning so winter is defiantly here.
Dinner tonight pie n mash for DH and chicken burgers in a bun for me as we are trying to use up the freezer bits
Have a great day whatever you are up to and stay warm0 -
Really icy and cold this morning but braved the weather to drag out a lot of cardboard that dds had been promising to take to the tip for weeks and have put it out for recycling.
New bedding is on our super king and looks really good and laundry is nearly ready to hang outside. Porridge for breakfast was very warming and have bacon and eggs for lunch, pea and ham soup for tonight.
I need to walk to the library later and use their computers to print out a hotel voucher booking for Saturday in Liverpool to meet youngest DD and have a catch up and shopping trip.
I even got special wrapping paper and cards for birthdays in early January. Approved food order should be on its way with special bottles of ale for SIL as a treat and some bargains on dish washer and laundry tablets etc.
Tru
I hope you feel better soon. It must have been a nasty shock.
Caterina
Are you being a horse all by yourself or are there two people in a suit? It is not the sort of thing that I would fancy doing either so I can see why you feel a bit fed up. Good Luck with it.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

To those who are avoiding childcare - count me in.
Just because I was a teacher for 40 years it does not follow that I am good for childminding, children's parties, etc.
Give me 40 children to teach and I am in my element. Give me 40 children to entertain and I am beyond resentful.
Fortunately my children are sympathetic with this and I am allowed to do as much or as little as I please with my grandchildren.
Of course, if there is an emergency I am there in a heartbeat.

I only did one birthday party with my eldest grand daughter, I spent the whole time, sitting under the dining table with a little girl who would just not join in anything. I did manage to get her to eat some jelly, that was it!!
DD1 decided it was easier to take a few of GD's friends to the soft play the next year. I never had to do duty again....whew.......my own children just had a friend to tea for their birthdays, they were not keen on parties. DD1 did have a party when she was 18....at the Church Hall mostly relatives, just a few of her friends.
None of the others wanted a party when they were 18, so had the cash instead.0
