Quote for dropping kerb

Hi All

I applied to have a quote for dropping kerb outside my house.

It costed me £120 just to get quote.
Now council is asking for £1700 to drop it. This is a lot money and I cant afford it tbh. but i need dropped kerb, what are my options ?

Can i get i done from someone who is authorised ? or is there anyone who is authorised apart form council ?

Can i haggle council ?

i am under croydon council

Any help will be appreciated.

Best of luck, from what I have seen in the past that's about par for the course. As for the £200 just to get the quote, that also seems to be the norm these days.

I was confused where to post it, this forum mentioned Parking as well hence, but please suggest a better forum if you can

no idea about Croydon but AFAIK only a local authority or a contractor approved by them can drop a kerb

my lad was recently quoted £35 in Tameside to do the quote , which comes off the price if he went ahead with it

3 stones plus tarmac etc cost about £575 I believe, where they knocked off the initial £35 from the eventual price

the standard 5 kerbstones plus tarmac would have been around £900

I assume each council has their own set charges and my lads council has a website listing the charges , but they added on extra money for going around an electricity access cover and the water shutoff cover too

not sure why things in London cost twice the price of other areas though (ripoff London ?)

see what the Croydon council website says

if you do it without permission and they find out , then they can penalise you and still charge for the work and any remedial work etc

ask a board guide (by pm) to move it to the motoring forum or similar

it is about 8mtr, just called council they said, i need a license to do it and that license itself would cost £2000 then i would need a approved contractor to do it for me.

What are your thoughts on the price £1698 for 8mtr drop kerb ?

I believe a kerbstone is less than 1 metre , so for 8 metres including the angled ones at each end then its maybe 9 or 10 kerbstones ?

it also depends how wide the pavement is as well , the wider it is , the more it costs due to tarmac etc, plus going around any obstructions

you can see what my area charges here

given that you want something like twice the standard 5 kerbstones it would cost a lot more than a grand here , depending on footway width as well

check that chart and add money on for any manhole covers and water main covers etc and it doesnt sound too bad

you can also read their caveats on getting your own contractor or doing it yourself

its not what I think about it , its what my lad did only recently but for maybe a third of what you require , it cost him about a third of what your quote is

his next door neighbour paid about £800 or £900 for 5 kerbstones but actually was quoted for something similar to your requirements to start with , but declined it due to it being well over a grand (I dont know the exact details)

there are 9 stones including slant ones, and there is one BT manhole cover.

Rates in london should be more ?
