Extortionate BT Mobile Call & text Charges from UK to EU

I am with BT Mobile but have discovered that outside of my monthly plan I have to pay 60p per minute and 25.2p per text from UK to EU country.


Yet if I call or text from EU country to UK it is only 4.3 per minute for calls and 1.7p per text.


Surely the lower rates should apply ?


Example if I phone Dublin from Belfast it is a fortune but much cheaper if I phone Belfast from Dublin !!

The only thing you can do is use someone like 18185. Much as it doesn't seem right, that is the system in place. You'll find most company contracts are the same, or even higher.
Vodafone are £1.50 a min to france, EE are £1, both are 35p a text.

Calls while roaming in the EU are capped by EU rules, hence they are much cheaper than calls in the home country to the EU.

With Brexit looming you could see a harmonisation of those costs in the future, unfortunately at the more expensive rates...

Cheap calls while roaming in Europe are thanks to the EU. The cost of mobile calls in the U.K. is entirely down to the Government making billions out of the networks in 3G and 4G auctions, someone has to pay for what costs nothing, except for an OFCOM admin/licence fee.

We regularly call friends in Spain for nothing... they have a dual SIM phone with a UK O2 PAYG SIM and a Spanish SIM, we can call the O2 number for free from our inclusive minutes and calls are free to receive while roaming in the EU using PAYG on O2. There are ways to work the system!

There are plenty of dial-through providers offering calls to Europe and beyond using 03 access numbers with no further payment required. If you have inclusive calls, you can call abroad at no further cost.
