Intermittent Sync Error with TalkTalk

I keep getting the Intermittent Sync error with TalkTalk.

Virgin are now in my area. Do you think switching to Virgin would help avoid this error?

I'm currently on a fibre connection and Virgin also now offer a fibre connection in my area.

Do TalkTalk and Virgin use different 'cables'? Or would the error still occur no matter who is providing the service?

Thanks!

They are completely different physical networks, so yes, switching would resolve the problem.
  • Thanks, I will try and find out how far I am into my TalkTalk contract.

Is the error over wifi ??
Have you had TT test ??
  • Yes and no.

Is intermittent so I'm wary of trying to get them to look into it.

The wi-fi signal is not the ISP's responsibility. The problem is usually down to poor internal wiring, poor signal areas in the property (due for example to solid masonry internal walls), or due to clashing wireless channels with a neighbour.
Retest using ethernet before you do anything else.

  • Thanks. I'm a few feet away from the router/modem.

As the problem is intermittent, I can't really accurately test it but will try and catch it when it next happens.

You need to do any tests with the computer connected to the router with a cable to rule out any potential wi-fi issues.

Even if the router is next to the device, channel clash can still slow things down a lot. So test as above with ethernet, then check the neighbouring channels with one of the smartphone apps such as InSSIDer.
PS: if the device is next to the router, then there's no point in using wi-fi anyway.
