Interesting. On that basis, maybe? The law is certainly clearer in this instance than the HC.

Unfair though, and I really think that the Law should be set up in such a way as to avoid the need for such feats of clairvoyance.

Alternatively, the law is not intended to imply any clairvoyance and it actually means stationary vehicles at the time of entering the box, in which case it is being grossly over-enforced.

According to the OP, they did have a clear exit when entering the box area. The lorry in question pulled over after they had entered.

Apparently entry was clear, not exit.

my entry was clear so not the exit was clear.

If it wasn't for this rubbish truck all traffic behind would've cleared the yellow box in good time. so the OP anticipated that the exit would be clear when he had crossed the yellow box. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

He didn't have a clear exit, the car that prevented him leaving the box was braking for the bin lorry before he entered the box.

I love the fact someone chooses a user name of George Michael and post on the motoring forum.

    Classic.

It didn't really need a great deal of choosing due to George being my middle name and Michael my family name.
Now, if only I had his money as well!

It's not compulsory to choose a user name in that manner. In fact I'm glad I avoided it as I'd be a member of take that.

The money would be good but there seem to be a range of other issues that you'd have to deal with.

Certain box junctions are designed to be cash cows for the local councils however unfair. Your case is unfair but in my view appealing would be pointless.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I have always wondered what happens when there are two lanes over the box, say your in the left lane and you see the exit for this lane is perfectly clear so you enter the box. Traffic starts to back up in the right lane blocking its exit so vehicles faster than you pull in front of you and the left lane backs up forcing you to stop in the box. I presume your stuffed and the 'barger ins' that took your exit space got away with it...

The council could even engineer this scenario as a cash trap by putting a right turn or a merge a little way up on the right lane that tends to back up after the lights change causing panic lane switching.
  • box junctions are one of those things, if you get caught it's just tough luck.

In London you can't just wat before the lane and wait for your exit to clear. Because the driver beside oyu will just drive into the box blindly and then change lanes in side the box and take your exit. You just have to judge based on the movement of traffic in front and drive in expecting the exit to be clear by the time you reach the other side.

AFAIK if a driver changes lanes and blocks your exit they are liable to a box junction fine and not you. But I think they CCTV operaters are more likely to go for whoever they can get first.

Not always bit in most cases that is what you have to do. ESPECIALLY on rush hour traffic.

I have had a rear half get caugfht inside the box many a times and it hasn't resulted in me getting a ticket, fortunately.

I have been quite lucky with speed cameras, box junctions to be fair.. I do sometimes wonder whether the DVLA has my correct details, just to be safe.
