This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Good morning from a foggy and cold Glasgow.
Mum needed a few things sorted in the house so I did most yesterday. Today I have to tackle the mystery of the house phones not recording messages, she's convinced it's the medical alarm service interfering thiugh the box has sat there for years. I'll need to set off the alarm, speak to the operator and then unplug it from the phone line to test it. That'll be after I do Mum's shopping as I think she won't want to go out today.
Mum quite liked the GTech I brought her though she found it difficult to press on the machine and pull the handle free. Just made me realise how weak she is, pehaps she could sit down whilst doing it. We'll experiment later. The new model has a different 'bin' section which is easier to empty but more difficult for her to pull out. Swings and roundabouts.
There's nothing I need to buy today. Tomorrow is the first advent Sunday so I'll put out my four candle advent wreath when I get home. I feel as if I should go into the big city whenever I'm here but have consumerism overload.
Anyway, happy Saturday to all. Hugs too.0 -
Morning GERS and all to follow. Brrr there's a savage frost this morning, I can't imagine how cold it must feel to be outside in it. My heart goes out to the homeless this weather.
What a tortuous journey back from the hospital yesterday. It took us three hours (by both bus and train) with much standing around as services were all running late and the roads jam packed with slow moving traffic. We finally got home at 6.15 tired, hungry and cold. Everyone was blaming Black Friday but maybe it's like that every Friday at that time I don't know.
Anyway the cystoscopy highlighted yet another health problem for Mr TA. Nothing sinister and not connected with the cancer, but he needs a stent and is now awaiting yet more appointments in Leeds, first with the Urologist and then for the procedure. This on top of the monthly appointments in Oncology. We spend so much time travelling back and forth there as it is maybe we should move there!
Today will be a day of playing catch up. Because of the appointments the Friday clean didn't get done, nor did the Thursday shop, so both to fit in today. We have been out of the house so much this last week that we don't need a great deal of shopping but there are quite a few things we need.
Have a good day if you can and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Take care all and wrap up warm xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Have a good day everyone.

I have my new tooth
I was expecting to be elated for about 10 minutes - “oooh, no gap!” - then be annoyed with it (that's what happened before when I had a temp one for six months, before they did a bridge) but it's fine. It's going to take some getting used to but I'm sure it won't be long before it just feels normal. The roof of my mouth feels a bit tender this morning, but I was told to expect this for a while.
I have six new chicken ladies
There was a bit of scuffle when we introduced them to our girls, then half an hour later at bedtime three of them had no idea where to go so we guided them to the shed where they found places on the perch. By that I mean they sat where the other girls allowed them to, lol. They're from a local family who are travelling abroad more and more often. They wanted someone who could look after them properly, rather than just pop in to let them out in the morning and again at night to put them to bed whenever they're away. The two young children would get involved with cleaning, feeding etc. so were quite attached to them and were a bit upset, so we were asked to pick them up while they were at school. We left £20 each for their money boxes (they're saving for Important Toys) and asked their dad to tell them they could come round in a couple of weeks. I've had a message from them, via their dad, to say thank you for the money and they were thrilled that they could come and check that the hens are happy

I wind myself up into a big ball of stress every time I have to visit the dentist for more than a check-up and cleaning, then spend a couple of days after the appointment feeling relieved and exhausted. This time is no different, I have a headache and feel really tired but the relief that the treatment is over is immense
I'll just potter about today, I have quite a few things to do but if they don't get done, that's OK.

Morning All
Not quite so cold today but still a frost, at least it's dry for now. Need to get some washing sorted, it will have to go on the airer and then get finished off in the drier.
Cleared loads from the kitchen last night, switched off the fridge/freezer this morning, anything that needs to be kept cool can go in the cold box and out in the conservatory. I've run out of boxes so will buy some re-useable shopping bags when I'm out today, the contents of the kitchen are only going upstairs so as long as it's contained it doesn't matter what it's in.
I have a chap coming tomorrow to start to dismantle the kitchen that's here, I've given it away via gumtr££, he seems delighted but I hope he's handy with a screwdriver!
Have a lovely weekend JackieO, hope the sun shines for you.
Hope you all enjoy your weekend, take care. xX0 -
Morning all
DS dropped at the station for 7am and now need to get OH up as he needs dropping to the station for 10am . I really can't be bothered with all this shopping business and will maybe go to Lakeside on Tuesday or Wednesday to get a few stocking bits and then i am finished .
Dinner tonight goodness knows as don't think DS will be home till nearly midnight and OH will be home when he is home from Rugby at Twickenham
Have a great day whatever you are up to0 -
Morning everyone,
Frosty here too with a low lying mist, have just opened Mum's curtains so she can watch the sun coming up whilst lying in bed drinking her tea.
She wasn't so well yesterday and hardly managed anything, let's hope today is better. She did enjoy watching Miss Potter which we had recorded with her in mind, the tea loaves were made and made the house smell wonderful for an hour or so. Today we will see how her energy levels are, I need to go to the farm shop for some meat so will see if she feels up to having a little trip out. Will take her back to DB's in time to watch SCD with my DN, they both love the programme and enjoy it together.
Am missing my lad terribly, even with looking after DM I am constantly thinking that I need to be somewhere, have had several friends offering me use of their horses as an equine "fix" but the loss is still too raw for that.
Hope you and Mr TA manage to rest a bit today TA, sorry to read that there is another medical issue, hugs to you x
:j for the latest additions TRU, more like a chicken sanctuary then
x
Hugs to COXY and HILLSTEP x
Edited to say, CATERINA just read your post on yesterday's thread, I too get the feeling of intense desire to jump off high places, so much so that I now avoid like the plague, worse episode was at Lands End, still makes me shudder to think of it!
Have a good day all, take care folks x0 -
Good morning,
I had a lovely full night sleep, blissful after the night before last, waking up every hour. Today DH is out all day so I am going to potter around doing nothing too useful, just enjoying myself I hope.
There is a local Christmas fair which is quite good, then I am going to take a trip into central London to buy fancy teas for the Italian relatives including my mum. I used to joke with my auntie (mum's sister) that I ought to buy supermarket loose tea, put it in a Fortnum and Mason tin and see if she spots the fake LOL I bet she wouldn't! Mum is a bit of a brand snob, I know, but hey she's my mum, she's 84 and I will spoil her this Christmas.
I think I will treat myself to lunch out, prob. in JL cafe, then tea and magazines reading in the V1rgin lounge near Piccadilly Circus. It's a great facility, all you need is an account with them, I opened a savings acct with £1 and qualified, then I added a bit more because they had a decent saving rate (no longer the case), anyway, it allows me entry to the lounge with free refreshments and magazines or newspapers, nice facility in the middle of crowded central London.
Breakfast is going to be DH super porridge (with dried apricot and grated fresh apples today instead of figs) with maple syrup.
Dinner will be cooked split peas added to last night leftover bean and kake soup. Probably also some coleslaw in vinaigrette as I need to use up the white cabbage.
Coxy, Lainey and Hilstep you are in my thoughts.
TA I hope your DH gets prompt treatment and is in less discomfort soon. Edited to add: I found that our local library stocks The Dandelion Years so I will add a trip to the library to my daily potter, thank you for the suggestion
Tru great news about the tooth, I understand the advance tizz about the dentist, I am like that too. Well done for facing your fear!
Have a good day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning,
Off to a Christmas Faye today. The knitting group I belonged to pre-job is displaying the tree we made- 12 knits of Christmas. Will be good to see some friends for a catch up. Nothing happening with arrangements for nephew as the coroner will need to give permission. Could take 10-15 days, during which time we wait which is really stressful, especially for my dear sister and her other children.
tru - so happy that you have your new tooth and I totally agree with the anxiety, despite my dentist being lovely! Just such a relief when it's over. More chicken! What shall we name them?!
Lainey - sending you hugs - your friends are very kind to suggest some horsey time, but I know it's hard to contemplate xx
TA - sorry to hear your DH needs another procedure - gentle hugs for you xx
JackieO - hope you're having a great time x
Hope everyone has a great weekend,

Good Morning Chums ,dry but cold here in our Cowes apartment. Luckily the central heating system works beautifully, so we ae quite cosy here.
Son-in-law seemed pleased with all of his presents, and both older boys bought him the vinyl records that he wanted, and he had sweaters, and lots of clothes, sweets and chocolates.
DD the four boys and DGS Bens g/f have all gone sea-fishing this morning out on the Solent, brrr far too cold for me.SiL Simon and I will have a leisurely stroll down to the front later. This afternoon we are having a tour of the island to show Candice (Bens G/F) our favourite places and we are also going to have a shufti and next years holiday cottage whilst we are here.
I also want to go to Oasis at St Helens to buy a couple of things for Christmas. Not too sure if we are dining out tonight or in, as it depends on the weather .
The apartment is large and very well equipped and if the weather turns colder we may get something in, and stay in the warm
Hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm and dry <<hugs to Lainey,Coxy11 and Hilstep >> xx
Cheers chums
JackieO xx0
