The ones pictured at #18 don't appear to be.
A quick look at other Sennheisers on Amazon shows a whole raft of them which are standard earphones, with no call answer or microphone capability0 -

So use a pair like those in the middle picture, and wear ear defenders over them.0 -

It looks like you've got the same issue I mentioned then. The Sony MDRs that don't work are designed for use in a mobile phone and have a mic (and maybe volume buttons?) and I suspect it is this extra part of the plug that is shorting across one of the other contacts in the socket in the TV.
The old ones (brand?) that do work are simply stereo audio with no added functions. They, like the Sennheisers in the picture I posted, should work in your TV and your phone but for audio only i.e. no call answering buttons or mic etc.
Incidentally, I suspect the extension cable you mentioned earlier will also be audio only no matter what you plug it into (or into it!).
Also be aware that the Sennheiser CX300 are "noise isolating" not "noise cancelling". This means they rely on how well they fit in your ear but that's a whole new issue.
Just to confuse matters Sennheiser have two similarly numbered models at around the same price.
The 300s are specifically advertised on the box with "noise isolation" where as the 3.00s say they have "noise-blocking". Go figure!

I finally got around to getting the sennheiser cx300 earphones. The problem is there is sound interference when connected to the tv. It is particularly noticeable when there is not much sound activity in the current scene of what I am watching. It is a bit like a radio station not being tuned quite right but not with hissing. The tv model is lg 49uh850v.0
