Edit - it's not a nose stud, is it?

No not a nose stud. I think they're a few years old, no idea how long nose studs have been around for!
And why a set of 4??

Similar to Victorian stick pins? To keep tie and cravats in place?

Bit like these modern versions http://www.cuffsncollars.co.uk/p4245-simple-magic-i.aspx
    03/26: OD £1200 600 500, CC £3914 3317, family £3100, loan £5618 5306 5036- total: £13832 12323 12003, mortgage £58,243 £57,766 57114
  • I'd say, having done a quick google search, they're quite possibly stick pins.

Most are completely straight pins, but I found one under google images that had a curve. The listing for it no longer exists but the image is here.

I just searched "clear stone on stick" and that image was near the top.

I'd guess with having 4 that they just really liked them!

Nope, that's not worked. Did you copy and paste from the relevant sized box?

    photos showing fine here
  • We're going with tie pins.

They would have originally had a cover over the pointed end like this one...

  • Thank you. They're definitely some form of garment pin so. They are interesting little things and I would love to know why there's 4 of them.
Such a peculiar thing to have had.

Possibly just bought several so that there were spares, although it may be that they were bought for a specific occasion where several men / boys were going to be looking smart / wearing similar clothes - maybe boys attending a sister's wedding?

(if they were for children then they might have been kept bu the parent rather than the individuals, although the same could apply to adult sons or bothers living at home)

It's the sort of thing I would expect to find in the mixed lots of jewellery I buy at auctions and I would probably sell them as tie/cravat pins. The only thing that makes me hesitate though is that the shaft part is a little thick to be easily pushed through fabric without damaging it- so it might be for a hat band?

Unmarked pieces though and would probably be difficult to sell even for a pound or so.
