I have a complicated problem which I'll try and explain in points:
- owned a house with an ex
- joint account where all our bills came out of
- he bought me out of the house when we split up
- I removed my name from our joint account
- I then closed the N Power Account and asked for everything to be sent to me
- N Power sent a £500 refund to the joint account (N Power account was in my name, bank account was no longer in my name)
- This is all fine, not worried about getting half the credit as just wanted to get away and never speak to the awful ex again.
- In the mean time the ex went to his bank and contested N Power taking the direct debits after I left for some reason.
- N Power refunded the joint account more money but this created a debt of £450 in my name (not his) and he is sitting on nearly £1000 of free money
I don't really understand how this has happened but I am now in debt with N Power ad really don't want bad credit as only recently became self employed. The ex wont return any of the money to me.

Welcome to the forum.
No energy company will normally get involved in what they term a 'third party dispute.'
However if you can prove that you told NPower to close the account, and told them that you were no longer on the joint bank account, then you have a case. If you did this in writing that would be excellent, but even if by phone, calls are recorded.
Submit a formal complaint to Npower - which should delay the matter affecting your credit record - and submit a complaint to the energy ombudsman if the case is not settled.0 -
Thank you for your reply, yes N Power said they can't get involved but my issue was with the bank taking direct debits back from an account in my name not his.
Also how can they credit a bank account with someone else's name? Doesn't really make any sense to me and not sure what to do.
Have nothing in writing sadly but will write a complaint and see what happens.
Thanks again for your help and have a lovely evening0
