  • I would think the best thing to claim (if not already getting it) is Pension Credit if entitled and Attendance Allowance. Also, check your mother receives the winter fuel allowance.
    Attendance Allowance [AA] is a benefit for people over 65 who have care needs. It is thought to be easier to claim than DLA/PIP although I don't know how true that is. If AA is received it can be spent on care needs, however those needs are provided - this could be through professional care services or the costs incurred by family assisting.
    I congratulate the OP. I work in a care environment and it's shocking the number of older people who are on their own for most days and the family think they have done their duty by taking them shopping or visiting once a week for as short a time as possible.
