I'm confused too.
OP, why does your wife need a car while you take your elderly mum out in an old van? If your mum lives with you in your converted garage, why are you cleaning her house?
If she has a house of her own, who lives there?
Maman,
Glad its not that just me that is confused.
And the op does not seem to be keen to answer any questions.

maybe. I don't keep a check on who is on-line. But i asked about the wife working close to the start of this thread. And the op replied to another person who asked questions after me.
So either skipped my question or just does not want to answer it.

As I said I have no interest of when the op was last on-line. I got better things to do than stalk people.
But its clear they have ignored a question I asked. As they replied to a question asked after mine.
Does there wife work? simple yes or no. there is too many things in the first post that make no sense on another reading.

Its not a free car. You exchange your Mobility part of DLA/PIP for the car.
OP wants a car for him, not for his mum. He's got a car and can take her to places, so why he thinks that he should be entitled to a brand new car is beyond me. The whole scheme needs reviewing and access to motability should be much more restricted, ie. for people who drive themselves and really need a car, and who because of a very low income couldn't afford it otherwise, and even then, it doesn't have to be a new car.0 -
I disagree. PIP/DLA should be to meet a cost that arises specifically from a disability. If you are choosing to use this money towards a car instead of something else, then you don't have a need for it. Now you can debate that if it wasn't for the car, the person wouldn't be able to transport themselves at all, expect that in the vast majority of people claiming, it isn't the case and people would have a car anyway.

We don't use motability, my entire PIP award and more goes on care costs but if my OH didn't have a taste for cars suitable for me I imagine we would eventually have opted for a mobility car. I don't drive but I need a car that can accommodate a wheelchair, on some days there's a portable oxygen tank, a dog and 10 tonnes of crap that I need on a day to day basis.
My mum struggles to get me in her car (an Octavia). I don't fit in my dad or sisters cars, my dad just drives his taxi if he is taking me anywhere and keeps me in my chair.0 -

Do you not realise that using public transport is often much more difficult for people with some disabilities than for able bodied people? A car really can be the only way to get about if you struggle to walk/wheel more than very short distances or if you have a lot of equipment that you need with you all the time that is heavy or takes up a lot of space or if you live in a fairly remote area or one without great transport links, or if you have a job that you can't get to on buses/trains?0
