Excellent advice, as always, from sourcrates. OP, if you're nervous at handling these sort of issues, why not ask someone more confident to have a go on your behalf? You can't let it go on like this.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Try complaining via Resolver - it's free and I've found it really helpful because it keeps all the info in one place and makes suggestions for what to write in each email. It also says you having to look up who to email (it knows where an email for Halifax should go) AND if you have to escalate to the Financial Ombudsman, it can be done by clicking a button.

Also, my expiron credit score is excellent, which can't be right as my Halifax debt is out of proportion to my earnings?

Credit scores arent taken into account for loans, another example why the scores dont reflect whats really going on.

Thanks, that may be easier. I had a look, and they don't cover Halifax credit cards. Would I put it under loans or banking? Will start inputting my info.

  • If you were paying it late and had any offers at the time you lose the offers, if they've closed the account it would be down to more then just a few late payments because you could of made a complaint and won based on that at the end of the day you were young and they were chucking money at you on plastic.

I would stop making payments until they prove what you owe but if it's been for 5 years the balance is probably a lot higher because the interest would of been adding on every month.
    CC - £2,555
    Paypal CC - £400
    Overdraft - £100
    Loan - £8,040

I've never had a default on the card or my credit file. They told me yesterday me the card was lost and I never cleared the block so they closed it. I had no letters but had put it away and stopped using it by that point so didn't realise. She also says the card number was changed Because of this, I think they may have forgot about me/lost me in the system then.

I don't understand how the balance would have gone up if I've paid every month (it's on automatic direct debit) surely if I pay the same every month the balance goes down a little more each month? This is what I thought happened with CC anyway!

  • Hi, just wanted to let you all know that I've written to them, using all the advice and hints you've all given. You're a great bunch, I thought I'd just be told Off for being an idiot, but you've been so helpful and spurred me on to get this sorted. Thank you. I'll let you know what they come back with.

  • Arrggh! Just missed a call from Halifax complaints while driving home. They are going to ring me back. Probably tomorrow now I'm guessing. Didn't expect them to get onto this so quick. Wonder if that's a good thing or bad :/

  • So, I spoke to a Halifax complaints. She just reconfirmed with me what had happened when I'd phoned and asked for statements in the past. I told her I'd been told they were electronic and I wouldn't be able to see them and told her that I didn't realise they legally had to let me have statements when my account has been closed and she said she expects to have a resolution for my by tomorrow lunchtime. So quick! Not sure if that a good or bad thing!
