I think this is a big ambiguous. If your father in law is paying you more than you are spending because of the tax thing, I think this is quite bad and you are taking advantage of him. If he is paying a certain amount and you are contributing too but less than he thinks because of the tax thing, this seems less dreadful to me but either way you should tell him ASAP.0

There doesn't need to be any more information.
Clearly states FiL helps out. Father gets salary sacrifice. That's all the information you need. If your overall costs are reduced due to s/s then you should split them at least according to the portion you split the nursery bill.
So, if FiL pays half the nursery bill, split half the salary sacrifice. It's fairly easy to calculate just look at your % tax rate and amount of s/s on your payslip.0
