OOO first things first, you now need to run malwarebytes to rid yourself of the malware that is most likely on your machine after running "driver updaters"..

    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/

(Decline the option for a free trial of the pro version)

What is the make and model of your wireless device ? and what version of windows are you using ?
I will find you the correct driver
  • Have run malware bytes but will do it again as it changed my home page (changed it back) & has changed my preferred search engine from duckduckgo to yahoo! At came in a plain envelope with a refurb computer-no name on it but on usb it says '802.11n'. I run windows xp sp3 (I know....ancient!). Thanks for the help!

You will struggle to find drivers if you dont know that make and model .
You can get a new one for around £10 it probly worth doing that.

Im sure i dont need to tell you this but you have a big target sign on your head as a very easy target for people learning to hack.

Xp machines have vulnerabilities that the script kiddies know havent been patched and will never be patched.

Best not to do any banking etc on that machine

  • Thanks Andy.....will give the company a call that sold the refurb computer & come back with a model number. Thanks again for your help. All banking done by phone/mobile or downstairs on windows 7 unit-VERY carefull-got good firewall, antivirus, run ccleaner every few days, spybot search & destroy, superantispware, malwarebytes. Any other ones you'd care to reccomend for both the xp & win 7 units??? Antivirus is avast free.
  • phoned the company concerned...said google 'MTKWLAN'. It's a Mediatek-MTK wireless. Tried to download from a couple of sites-didn't work & got loads of malware (sorted with adware & malware bytes). Any further ideas?

This is what you should see :-

I would suggest you are still infected with malware. Nothing here should be asking for any names etc.
Try resetting internet explorer, removing all addons, and running malwarebytes and adw cleaner
  • Andy-thats exactly what I see-click top one-but message in top left hand corner just says 'you must fill in this field' or words to that effect. Adware/malwarebytes have been run-no issues. Any other sources you may know of? Sorry to be a pain (!).
