To update on this story we visited the Apple store yesterday and got a walk in appointment for DD's new screen and replacement battery.
On returning to collect the phone and to part with her hard earned £119 for the screen, we were presented with a brand new phone. They explained in some instances the batteries are difficult to remove and may explode/rupture if forced. For safety they cannot do this in which case they replace the phone.
Suffice to say we did not have to pay for the new screen so a happy ending to this story.
The store still did not have the batteries in stock for this program as they tried to turn us away and DD had to explain she had received their email inviting her in.
Even though we have this happy ending, I still think that Apple should offer to replace the screen if this is required free of charge or at a reduced rate as a goodwill gesture. Apple users this affects after all have had the inconvenience of their phones losing power and then the rigmarole of going to store and dealing with the waits and crowds etc.
I'm sure this tiny dent in their operating costs wouldn't even affect the shareholders dividends.
  • sent my phone for repair to apple, they came back with a request for £225 + VAT due to "dents" in the case, which arent even dents, they are scratches.

No damage to the screen. I called to say just replace the faulty battery, and not to worry about it, but they are now refusing to replace the faulty battery unless I pay nearly £300 !

Looks like I will have to pursue them with the consumer rights act which states :

"an attempt at repair or replacement has failed, you have the right to reject the goods for a full refund or price reduction - if you wish to keep the product". I am hoping I can get it fixed this way.

Apple have shipped a faulty product, and acknowledged it is faulty, but are employing sneaky tactics to get out of repairing it. This will be the last Iphone I ever purchase
  • Presented my phone at local Stormfront store having made a Service Appointment explained shutting down issue as well as article I had recently read.
Had to leave phone but have an Android I was able to use, just back up all data to icloud. Yes they would investigate and get back to me.
24 hrs later they phoned very apologetic, would take 4-6 weeks as Apple having issues with batteries and logistics. Bit disgruntled but agreed they could keep handset, emails followed on a regular basis until just 10 days I received one to say phone had been repaired and was ready for collection.
Yippee, thought I , but having driven 10 miles and presented receipt found it was not ready as it had not bern finally checked by Apple.
I was understandably upset and cross at the unnecessary journey and wrote a 'more in disappointment than anger' email on my return.
Phone call an hour later from James in Exeter full of apologies to inform me that a NEW handset would be issued to me with no costs incurred at all.

This was duly collected today, brand new iPhone 6S not in box but covered in plastic wrappers.
    Result!
