Easylife Rewards Club Rant

  • My elderly father got involved in this too. Last November he was suddenly charged for membership. I called up and got a refund (without any hassle) and asked to cancel the membership. In January he got another letter telling him it was time to renew and that he was going to be charged over £100. I wrote to them (recorded) telling them to cancel everything and delete all his personal details. Called up last night to confirm, very suspiciously was told 'we literally just debited your account'. Have been promised a full refund this week. They're claiming no record of my letter. Both times I didn't have to argue for the refund but its still a fuss, seems they rely on people not noticing or making the effort to complain.

Is there any way to instruct the bank to decline these withdrawals in the future? Its not a standing order or direct debit, I just don't want to have to monitor this forever more. Is it worth getting in touch with the Information Commissioners Office if they refuse to delete his details?
  • My 87 year old dad has been charged by Easy Life  - £18.50. We contacted his bank as the only dealing he has had with them was a small purchase in 09.2019.. We called his bank who said that he had dealt with them in 2020- to his horror  there have been a total of 7 other transactions 4 in April 2020- £59.96/1.99/18.50/59.99 and 3 in June £18.50/1.99/69.50 .We contacted Easy LIfe who said that he had susbscribed to PErx package. He has NEVER to his knowledge signed or agreed to this ever. The last time he dealt with them was 09.2019.He has received zero service from this company. Also they very quickly agreed to refund the JAnuary 2021 subscription without any argument, but we have to write to their HO for a refund of the rest. How can we prove that he did not agree to promotions? If he did why the big gap between September and April? I see they get away with this regularly Disgusting why is this allowed? How does my DAd get his money back?
  • Re my post about Easy Life perx, my DAd is sharp has his wits and never received free gifts, welcome packs et etc
  • Hi.. just found out my 82 year old mom has been ripped off by easy life rewards.. she had a item for £17.98 in 2017 and unknown to her they have been taking money out of her bank ever since to the sum of £771.40... I have got in touch with her bank and the fraud department has got involved. . Main reason because all money taken out was all very random. . So she waiting to see what can be done.. it's very very sad when companies do this to anyone..

My mum (88) has also just been ripped off by this company. Ordered something over the phone and a week later was sent a parcel which was, I think two "free books" for postage £1.95, luckily she refused the parcel so it was sent back. No proof of this though. Today she got a parcel of eight books costing £29.99 and this has been charged to her debit card. From Easy life book club! She is really distressed, has Alzheimer's, and doesn't read! Contacted her bank, stopped debit card and disputing the payments. This company are dishonest and preying on the elderly, I will be reporting them to trading standards also.
  • I’ve just got access to my Mums accounts and credit cards (she’s 80) to help her check everything.  And I’ve found Easylife have been taking £24.99 per month since April from a Halifax Mastercard.  So that’s £174.93 so far.  She has always been absolutely clear with them that she has no interest in their newsletters, clubs etc.

So… what do I do?  I’m assuming if I talk to Halifax I should be able to get them to chargeback and stop any future payments?

But if they won’t do that then reading some of this discussion I’m wondering if we should just close the card completely?!  She’s got another credit card she can use.
