    It's not just cats.

Years ago we had two springers, who overnight (without disturbing the tree at all) stole all the fudge soldiers (all but the one highest up), just leaving empty wrappers hanging from branches.

A friend had two older cavaliers so thought nothing of leaving the tree on a waist high unit, the first Christmas after acquiring two younger ones. In a couple of hours the twosome completely wrecked everything. (I can just imagine the wide-eyed looks on the older dogs' faces.)

  • I used to tie my tree to the wall when my cats were younger. Before that I'd literally turn away for a second & it would be on the floor :(
Happily now the older cats are not fussed anymore & my younger cat is far more interested in controlling the local rat population than making a mess of the tree.

We bought an umbrella tree a few years back and it's been great with our four. Not sure if you can still buy them but it's like this one:

I can hang ornaments from below and it's pretty to sit under. As it's on a pole like a garden umbrella the cats can't get near it.

But that's what Christmas trees are for!! x
  • No such thing as a cat proof tree.

Mine was lashed to the stairs when Idiot Cat came here. Previous furry overlords have merely batted the occasional low hanging bauble (although silver lametta was rapidly removed from the decoration box with one of those) or clambered into the bucket, but, by getting an Autumn kitten instead of a Spring one, I was confronted with a nutcase who had the tree dangling by its tinsel bindings within five minutes of assembly. And this repeats every year, as the tinsel is backed up with lights, then strong, then washing line for that extra special Christmas touch.

So this year, no tree. We're going away, so he will have to content himself with harassing the lodger through the banisters.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

You can use this kind of tree!

Just what we need - although it looks awful :D

Yes, our cat not over takes off the decorations she also pulls down the tree, or knocks it over.

    Is there such a thing?

We will put up one this year as Phoebe is still teething (6 months old) so is not allowed in living room where all the tempting wires and hiding places are.

Next year back to the box.
