Car accident procedure

Hello!
A guy hit my car with his and he told me that he will pay for the damages.
The only evidence I have is that I took a photo of his licence, while he has no information about me, apart from my number.

Should I do it via my insurance company? Or ask him to pay me directly?

If the second (I wouldn't like to cause trouble to him etc), what should I do? I need to get my car to the garage and they will need to check it, will they do it for free? and then I will get my car, go to collect his money to pay the garage? Will the garage be ok with me getting my car without paying? How should I do it?

thanks!

Agreed. That's what you pay them for.

In future, remember that you MUST give the other party your name and address, not just a number.
  • But I want to save that poor guy's NCB. Isn't there a way to do it without insurance?

You don't owe him any favours - he just drove into your car!
  • I am really confused:
    https://www.confused.com/motor-insurance/your-cover/car-insurance-is-claiming-always-a-good-idea

This says that if I report it, even though it's not my fault, my premium will almost certainly increase!!!! That's so unfair! What should I do?

I had a non fault accident in Jan. Claimed directly of the other guys insurance (Privelidge) and notified my own (Direct Line) there has been no increase in my Premiums on my 2 policies.
Plus by NOT disclosing this incident to your insurer you will be committing fraud.

If disclosure carries no financial penalty, then how can non-disclosure be fraud?
