Hi,
In a nutshell I'd like to buy a tablet up to the £200 mark for primarily watching football on the BT and Sky Sports apps and also doing a bit of surfing and playing my Pro Evo Soccer manager game.
I was looking at an Apple Ipad mini 2 16gb for around £200. But then my BIL suggested buying a second hand one from somewhere like CEX. Unless they come with a warranty from there I would probably rather by new though.
Now I find myself wondering if I would be paying for the name a little if I bought an Apple which has started me looking at the Amazon Fire 8 HD.
It's only £85 so I imagine the screen quality can't be anywhere near as good as the £200 Apple?
Opinions please and recommendations of any other products or views on the two I've mentioned above. I've started reading reviews but I'd like to ask here also.
Thanks

i just replaced my ageing ipad with a samsung tab A 10.1". £219 from john lewis or currys. superb screen for watchig movies and sports. very fast, responsive tablet. good battery life.
don't miss my overpriced 'locked down' ipad at all.0 -
I agree about Lenovo tablets.
I replaced my broken Samsung 1 month outside warranty with a Lenovo 10.
Half the price of the Samsung0 -
The Amazon Fire tablets offer good value for money. They are reasonably robust in terms of build quality (certainly at their price point) and have decent screens. However there is one downside. Although Amazon tablets are based on the Android operating system, they come pre-installed with the Amazon App store - and not Google Play (as you would find on other Android devices). In other words you are at the mercy of Amazon to decide what apps it will make available to you now and in the future - rather than always offering you the vast choice of apps you find on Google Play. In practice, the Amazon App store contains all the major apps that you would expect to find - but not everyone likes the idea that Amazon are in control of what you can and can't download.
For my money, the Asus MemoPad range of tablets strike a great balance between quality and price. As a family, we've had four different models over the past couple of years (there are four of us!) and we've never had any problems with any of them.0 -
Also agree re Lenovo.
Replaced my Hudl2 with a refurbed TAB2 -A10 from Argos Ebay shop after a recommendation on another thread a few months back.
Great value Tablet0 -
I recently bought a Chuwi Hi10 from Amazon marketplace for less than £200. It has Windows 10 + Android, a nice 10" screen, reasonable performance, seems a bargain compared to other tablets I've had.
Also connects perfectly with a bluetooth keyboard I already owned, which is a bonus when using Windows 10.0 -
Thank you for the replies, I've just started looking in to the mentioned devices.
Knowing absolutely nothing about them at the minute I thought that my Wife's Kindle Fire that she's borrowing from her Dad was only able to be used to download and read books! That's all she's ever used it for but she's been told it can be used like an Ipad etc.
We just went to search for the BT Sport app to download and it can't be found. Is this related to what was mentioned by a poster above where the Amazon Fire only lets you use apps they want you to use?
I don't like the thought of being restricted0 -
get a android tablet0

I got an email from Argos today & in it there's the Amazon Fire 7 Inch 8 GB Tablet - Black for £29.99
I don't know much about it but £30 seems reasonable.
I'm an iPad guy myself & I'd definitely be considering CEX. A 16gb iPad Air 1 sells for £235 with a 2 year warranty which is really good. I know some consider them to be overpriced & restrictive but it depends what you plan to do with it? I just want to be able to download the apps from the App Store & be able to use them. We got an iPad 2 used for one of the kids about 5 years ago & it's still going strong.0 -
Look on ebay at the Argos Clearance site .. HERE
See refurbed returns - had a couple of Samsungs - they are nice a clear/not scratched etc (well mine anyway)
come with a 12 month warranty0
