Admitting to and apologising for an offence that you haven't committed is a daft idea.

    He was speeding

Whether he knew it or not

A quick "oh sorry officer I thought I was doing 35" would have done

No admission of guilt and no smart !!!! comment

Where does it say he was speeding?

He's not mentioned the speed limit on the road concerned?

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

I deduced from his post that he was speeding in a 40

Your replies on this thread seem to be absolutely full of assumptions :rotfl:

He said he was doing well under 40.

As for saying he was trying to be "smart" I can't see that anywhere in his original post.

I doubt the officer would have a problem with him doing over 40 if the speed limit was 50

As for the smart !!!! bit " how did you catch me doing 45 if i was doing way over 40" isnt wide in the least

If I said that to a police officer, I can assure you that I would never be accused of being "wide" (not in a million years!).

Look, if you're happy to apologise to someone for something that you haven't done then it's your look out. It takes all sorts.

    Actually no

First of all the cops only give a speeding ticket if they've caught you on a calebrate camera

If they had he'd have got the ticket

Normally if they catch you speeding but no cam they pull you over and give you a ticking off

If you look sincere and apologetic they let you go
If you get wide any reason they can find will get you a ticket

    I know from experience

I drove onto a motorway and got pulled by a motorbike copper for overtaking him at speed and nearly knocking him off????

Not me the other almost indentical car that was bazzing up the motorway at speed.

I asked what evidence he had that it was me and he backed off, if they have no calibrated camera ( and i would be surprised if a bike had) they can't do you for speeding, If he had a camera it would show it wasn't me.

If you know you haven't done anything don't let them talk you into a ticket.

What on earth are you on about ? who is it that needs a camera to knock you off for speeding. :rotfl:

The officer only needs to give his opinion supported by a speed device which can be a calibrated speedometer, stopwatch over measured distance, Vascar, Pilot, laser etc. The police do not need cameras to prosecute ? At least I never have for the past thirty years. The "safety partnership" cashcow brigade use cameras.

Not true, what do you think they did before all these fancy gadgets became available? The laws haven't changed, the fancy equipment just makes it easier for them, they can still do you in the old way.

No, you are assuming because you got let off once or twice that it always happens that way, which of course is rubbish. I think if you genuinely have been speeding then you should try the apologetic route, but if as OP you have NOT been speeding, apologising for something you did not do is daft.

You have said the OP was speeding if that is the case then why don't you explain how did the cop catch him if the cop was doing 45?
  • I semi-admitted to speeding, cos it was a 30 zone and I was doing 35/36 ish.

My point to the PC was how did he catch up with me when he said he was doing 45 and I was doing "well over 40"...

Then when his side kicked shrugged his shoulders and looked away, I knew I had won lol
